i love to read, i read alot of novels...but i really like to read Anne Rice's books...being that i'm a born again Christian, does that mean God looks down on me reading about the "occult", or being that i read them meerly for entertainment purposes, there really isn't any harm....

there is a passage in Psalms, saying "i will set no evil thing before mine eyes"..do you think this is pertaining to topics such as this?

Are you aware the Anne Rice, about five years ago, stopped writing her occultic novels? She had begun going to church again, for the first time since childhood, and made a commitment to Christ. She has a Christian book called (I believe) "Christ the Lord". (Have not read it).

May I suggest a couple other authors to try, if you like things with an occultic theme and a Christian message.

Frank Peretti has two excellent books "This Present Darkness" and "Piercing the Darkness"

Steve Lawhead "The Dream Thief" (may have to hunt for this one as it is out of print at the moment)

Exactly!!! You know where the occult is from so do you think, if you are a true Christian, that Jesus would wile away the hours reading things about the occult or would He read about things of God? In many places in the bible it talks about what an abomination it is to God for anyone to mess with this kind of thing and that mediums and those that practice the occult things should be stoned, put to death. A bit of dangerous ground to be on if you want to call yourself a Christian. Christian=like Christ
Would Christ be doing it? If you answered no, YOU should not do it either. there are much better things to read and be entertained with than the occult. Try reading and studying the bible instead to learn more of God. check out the site below and do the studies there.

No. Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world all things are lawful for me. If you have an attack of conscience then do not go against what you believe to be right but understand a book such is this is merely entertainment and not something you believe and is not sinful. We are free from all law but are changed by faith in the atonement and resurrection of our lord and do go beyond the law. If you live in this sinful world you will have evil before your eyes fictitious books are not evil. Real life can be. Is your faith so weak as a ficticious book is going to hurt your faith? I can not believe Christians live in such fear Christ paid the penalty to free us not to put us under law and fear. Sty in the word and stay in communication with God in prayer and meditation and he is wiht you and you need not fear the world or a fiction book because you know God and he dwells in you and greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. We should not live in fear or under penalty of ordinances we should live as if the Christ has come and live in reusrrection power not in fear of falling from grace but in faith knowing the redemption has been made and we have been changed and God is great and powerful.

I think the true point of being Christian is to love, and to avoid causing deliberate harm to others. If you're not going out and trying to exsanguinate others because you've been reading Anne Rice, I'm sure god thinks it's fine, and certainly better than sitting down and watching trashy TV.

I think if your faith has any strength you wouldn't be asking this question about fiction novels. If you think your faith is in jeopardy, perhaps you need to question the reality of the rules of faith. Are you a good person? Feel the need to kill anyone and drink their blood? If not, there's a good bet that you're OK. Entertainment is just that - meant to take you to a place outside your normal existence. Think fantasy. Nothing wrong with that. As long as you can keep the two separate, you're fine.

You have to be careful. You have to recognize that those books are fiction and for entertainment. You need to a strong faith to enjoy it as fiction and not get swept up in paganism. Rice has recently had a conversion and I would recommend reading her last book "Christ the Lord".

You have to be careful what you read though, especially with the occult, because it comes from the evil one. All books contain messages from the author(s). Remain firm in your faith in God's word, the Bible.

Ask youself two questions:

1. How do these books help me grow in my faith?
2. Would Jesus read them?

God bless!

yes it is pertaining to that, the fact that you are questioning it is because The Holy Spirit is now in you and its not agreeing with your spirit. Satan will use anything to get you away from godly things and what pleases him. Be careful!
