Honestly it bothers me as well. I do not have to leave the table. My brother married into one of the nicest families on earth but with some of them holding kinfe and fork like cricket bats is the norm.
They do look like cave people eating. I sit there with my proper manners, as does my brother, and our mates and simply ignore the piggish among us. NOTE:His wife has proper manners as well.
My bother and I often reflect upon his wife compared to most of her family. We have agreed that finding her was like finding a diamond in a dungpile!!!
Maybe it is because she broke away, got to uni, and saw a bit more than some of her siblings. Her parents have manners as well. It is as though one of her sisters and a brother, and an inlaw or two want to prove they are individualistic!!!
So, I am with you on the feeling ill, if one can not tune it out.

in which hand people hold the knife and fork really does depend on where they are from. I am glad I have good manners and it bothers me when people around me don't know how to eat properly. But also the people that worry about the manners too much don't look like they are getting a chance to enjoy their food, they are so worried if they look right. Just seems like it. Its a fine line on how much manners is too much in our world, and whats the complete unacceptable. Everything seems to be okay now, as long as you don't eat with your hands in a upscale restaurant. Leaving the room is a little extreme, I think. Also, you shouldn't comment on anyones manners, as that is itself is a bad manner.

Bad table manners put me off, too. But because fewer and fewer people have really good table manners, you just have to live with it. Leaving the room is a bit extreme. I was also taught that you never correct or comment on anyone's manners, no matter how poor they are (unless they are your children). So, don't take it personally and just be glad that you were taught good manners -- say thank you to your parents or whoever it was!

This is one of the results of the middle class taking over the world. We loss honour, chivalry, pride, manners, but we gain equality. I not reallly sure if it is a fair trade off. Its almost as if your the outsider and the rude one if you do have manners. I say god help the human race when we all become equal, and decend to the level of the beast. So hold your head high, and be proud of your manners.

very few parents teach their children table (or any other kind)manners. - a lot depends on the upbringing of the people you dine (eat) with. It'd be great if schools include this subject "ethics/civics" (and even a little of grooming and deportment) in their curriculum or encourage kids to read such books as I believe this is a necessity

bad manners is so easy to detect and of course so easy to avoid.
Avoid doing anything that is noisy clumbsy, or otherwise distractive.
Emphasize doing things just a little bit slower than normal and smoother than normal. - This secret will cover many mistakes.

I agree, children should be taught properly, it is all part of good parenting skills! No one wants to see people shovelling food into their mouths, teach them properly and bring them up nicely, or don't have any

Which incorrect manner? people hold their flatware differently depending on where they are from, sometimes I employ both American and British techniques when eating, just depends on where I am or even my mood.

Why does it matter? Unless they are like inhaling their food, why does it matter if they hold their fork or spoon wrong? They gotta eat, that's just the way they choose to.
