My husband and I have the same peanut butter in our cupboard. He ate it on sandwiches within the past few weeks and never got sick. I threw it away anyways and am sending the cap in tomorrow for a refund.

Authorities still don't know how the salmonella got into the peanut butter.

What are the symptoms of salmonella infection in humans?

Once Salmonella has been ingested, the "incubation time" or period from ingestion until the first symptoms of illness occur ranges from 12 to 72 hours. The time to illness may vary depending on many things such as the host's overall fitness and age, the amount and serotype of Salmonella ingested (with some serotypes as few as 20 cells), and the presence of various "stress" factors such as whether the person is undernourished, etc.

Acute symptoms:

Most often humans have a "gastroenteritis" syndrome characterized by nausea, vomiting within 8-48 hours of ingesting Salmonella. Shortly thereafter the patient will experience abdominal pain/colic or cramps and diarrhea; the diarrhea may vary from a few loose stools, to profuse watery stools, to rarely dysentery (bloody stools) with much straining. Patients may have moderate fevers (<39C) and occasional chills, too. The duration of symptoms is also dependent on host factors, dose ingested , and type of salmonellae.

Yes! Thanks for reminding me to look! I had the big a** jar of the Great Value and only 1/4 of it is gone. Don't sure if it made us sick. We're a family of 6 and someone always has a stomach ache. We're not old or plague by illness, generally healthy people so a little salmonella isn't going to do anything but give us some flu like symptoms this time of the year. I think about the main thing I made was Scotcharoos and the peanut butter would have been heated to a boiling point.

And to Nickname above me: all about the lawsuit, huh? Sorry, chump you have no damages and no leg to stand on, so to speak. Grow up and get a job!
But I am tossing this jar, who has time to be sick. But remain calm, unless you are high risk salmonella won't kill ya!

No I didn't have any of the recalled peanut butter! Signs and symptoms may appear right after, or can take a while to appear. If you are worried Call your doctor! Salmonella could have occured from cross contamination, and I don't think there are eggs in Peanut butter... If there were then we'd all be sick! You can't store eggs on a shelf without refrigeration! All Peanut butter is is Peanuts ground with some sugar, and oil !

I'm in southern Wisconsin and when I heard the news, I immediately ran to my cupboard to check my jar of Peter Pan PB and there it was - with the 2111... code and I freaked. Half the jar had already been eaten by our family but nobody had gotten sick (thank goodness). I also know a handfull of people who also had eaten the potentially tainted PB but didn't show any signs of illness.

According to wrongdiagnosis.com, "most persons infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection."

According to Yahoo News, "How the dangerous germ got into the peanut butter was a mystery. But because peanuts are usually heated to high, germ-killing temperatures during the manufacturing process, government and industry officials said the contamination may have been caused by dirty jars or equipment."

And just on another note, eggs are not usually an ingredient in peanut butter.

Glad to hear you didn't get sick! :-)

Ive been eating the so called contaminated 2111 peter pan peanut butter all week and I'm fine. I heard that dirty jars and improper sanitation in the plant where it was produced caused the salmonella

Yes, we ate several jars, and none of us are sick. The bottom line is that there is not sufficient evidence to blame peanut butter for 83 freaking cases of Salmonella when millions of jars have been consumed. Somebody has gone down the wrong road.
