I was discussing with a friend how old a child should be potty trainned.
She had a daughter trained by 14 months old.
Another was over 3 by the time they had sucess.
I think it all depends on the childs development because there was almost 2 years difference in this case.
So is it a set age or dependent on the childs personal development?

i think that between 18-24 months is the perfect age to start. a nudge once in a while and consistency are the only ways to get it done.

those that tell you to wait until the child is 'ready' are in the dark.
my mother had all of us girls potty trained at a year old.
if you let a child pee and poop their diaper, with you changing it every time you turn around they will continue to do it until YOU help them to understand that it has to be done differently.

positive reinforcement is the way to go.
not food, or presents.
my daughter and i would always do the 'happy dance' when she used potty
we danced around and sang na ,na ,na ,nanana!!
and she was so happy that she could take the potty out and empty it all herself.
making poopy can be fun... sometimes we still sing and dance and she's 5 so just my opinion, but start as soon as you can.

When it comes to child developement , everything is relative.

There is a median age where people say your child should be potty trained, but it really does depend on the child. Some children will take to it like clockwork, others have difficulty grasping the concept.
With my eldest, he was fully potty trained by the time he was 3 and 1/2. My youngest, who is 5 has absolutely no interest in the potty(mind you.. 5 is extreme to not be potty trained, he has a global communication and developemental delay, so developmentally he is about 3 years old).
The child will start giving clues that he or she is ready to start(going into the other room when they're having a BM, and having better bladder control). You should never force potty training on a child, studies have shown that certain psychological disorders have arisen from forcing potty training.

So, all in all, yes it does depend on the stage the child is at.

Hope this helps.

Totally depends on the child's development. I have 3 (going on 4) kids and each is different. I try to encourage with a training potty in the bathroom and to take them in even if they just sit for a minute fully clothed. They usually give signs to being ready! Books are great at illustrating how to go pee pee and poo poo in the training potty for them too. There are a bunch out there and my kids all started to look at them around a year old and this put the whole thing into perspective for them.

I have a 2 1/2 year old. I have tried to start the process. Some days he's interested, but most dayshe's not. I've decided to wait until he's more agreeable in that area. I'm picking my battles--and right now, that's not one I choose. I believe that a child will do it quickly when they are ready, so it's best to wait til they are ready. As with most other things, kids do things when they are ready just like talking & walking.

I hope this helps.

it all depends on the baby i belive that if they are around other babies potty training they will want to do it if they are training without other child inter action it will be harder cause they dont see it going on i say put a potty chair in the bathroom and sit them on the potty every 30 minuets or so give them a book eventually youll catch them at the right time little boys are easier though throw cheerios in the toilet have dad shoot a few and little guy will want to soot them too

my daughter is almost 18 months old and she has given me signs that she is ready to be potty trained. my best advice will be not to buy a muscial potty seat! i believe its dependant on the childs personal development.

My feeling is that it is the child's personal development. Also whether it's a boy or girl, and what birth order they are. Best of luck to you!

sometimes girls are extra quick. like 14 moths. 2 to 2and a half is average. boys take the longest. they can be anywhere from 3 to 4. and boys seem more often to have accidents and bed wet.
