What do you have to lose by believing in God? Nothing. Why spend you life trying to fill the void with worldly possessions, when in the end they will perish? What do you have to lose by believing in Jesus as your Savior? What do you have to lose by being filled with the Holy Spirit? What do you have to lose by having joy, peace, happiness, strength, patience, love, self-control? Nothing in this world can satisfy like Jesus. Drugs and alcohol may satisfy for a short while but then what? What do you have to lose by enjoying your life to the full and not every worrying about anything? You wont have anything to lose.....Just a thought

Well said. And no, one has nothing to lose IF he really follows what he claims to believe. Not just says it, but really does it. However, there is a lot to lose if one preaches and claims to be something, but does things opposite to what he claims to believe. And there is a great harm in that and a lot to lose. Because when people, who are still considering whether they want to open up to God, see how the self acclaimed believers act in hypocritical manner, they get disappointed in God and Jesus Christ's teachings. And they may prefer being bad but real and honest to being fake.
So to those who stand on the verge of the decision: Don't necessarily look at what other people do, it's between you and God. You should discover your faith for yourself and follow it the best way you can. I could personally get disappointed in God and Christianity, if my understanding and faith were not strong enough. I had a very bad brush with so called beleivers. And nothing can bring more harm than when someone, you're supposed to look up to as an example, destroys your beleif with his actions, not practicing what he preaches.
Whatever you said did not leave an impression of a question. More like pushing people to think in a certain way.

According to you guys, God would know if we were just pretending to believe in Him. I'm not going to pretend to be something I'm not anyway...I respect myself too much for that.

And how dare you suggest that I have have joy, peace, happiness, strength, patience, love, self-control without believing in God? Or that I'd have to use drugs and alcohol to achieve these feelings? As I've stated in a previous question, atheists are not robots with no sense of emotion, faith or morality.

I live my life to the full BECAUSE I do not believe in God. I don't believe that I have a nice heaven to go to in the end, so I make sure that my life is the best it can be. I enjoy the world in all it's beauty, I give to charity, I help everyone I can, I respect, love and cherish all my family and friends...

Maybe you should be more understanding of your "brothers and sisters", rather than condemning them...just a thought.

It is not only Christians who can feel joy, peace, happiness, strength, patience, love, and self control. Not all non-Christians do drugs or drink alcohol. Not all non-Christians are only worried about worldly possessions (check out some of the Eastern beliefs). There are non-Christians who live their life to the fullest and don't "worry about anything."

I have joy, peace, happiness, strength, patience, love and self control - all without believing in god. I can find intense satisfaction from helping people, being with my family, and enjoying the world around me - all without going to church or reading a bible. I've earned my worldly possessions by working hard, not by exploiting the lost souls who are talked into giving up money to a questionable church and slick-talking preacher who uses the money to buy meth and male prostitutes, or worse, who teaches hate in the name of a god.

Giving up my decisions to a mythical being would mean losing myself - that's what I have to lose. Go right ahead and do it yourself, if that's what you need to get through the day, but spare me the BS.

I don't care much about worldly possessions , beyond the bare necessities. I don't even own a car. I have joy, peace, happiness.strength patience (more than most people, according to my friends), ,love, and self-control, I have never done drugs or alcohol. I live a very full life, and I take full responsibility for my own actions.

I am an atheist, sorry to deflate your balloon.

False logic. Why should I believe your God above others? Why shouldn't you believe in say, Jupiter, king of the Gods? What do you have to lose. I bet you'll feel silly when you die and sends you to the underworld, which is managed by Pluto. Why don't you believe in Apollo or Mercury? You have nothing to lose!

Pick a god and run with it, see which which one wins. Have you ever considered that maybe God likes people who don't spread their religion, or maybe people who question the world around them like Agnostics. Maybe you won't be "saved" by Jesus and instead agnostics will. You don't know and you can't make assumptions. No one religion is above another as far as validity goes. I totally respect that you believe in something but that doesn't mean everyone should.

Here is what I have to lose- common sense, logic, self determination, the satisfaction of knowing I am being true to myself. Why do you think I use drugs and alchohol? Why do you think I am hung up on material possessions? I live a very simple life. I drink maybe a bottle of wine a month and havent done drugs in years, which I did do while I was a believer in god.

I think the thing people may "lose" is sinning and doing whatever they want. perhaps maybe those unmoral? I agree with the other answer to just pray for those lost, they are definetly missing out because nothing can fill a void in the heart like Jesus and there is no comfort like our Fathers everlasting arms

First of all, what makes you think that people who don't have Christ in their lives are solely focused on worldly possessions? That's a rather interesting assumption...

Second, what do you mean, what do I have to lose? I have to lose an entire lifetime of devoting my time and energy to the wrong thing if Christianity turns out to be untrue. Don't you think that factors in there a little bit?

Sorry, but I have to counter this by asking you what would you have to lose by not believing?
Just because a lot in religion means you can have peace, happiness, love, strength, patience, joy etcetera does not mean you will necessarily feel them; a lot of Catholics feel great depression and countless numbers have committed suicide because of those overwealming feelings, despite what they learn that suicide is an immortal sin.
