Or maybe. When "the powers" stop messing with our
clocks every year. Playing god with time.
We can all get some decent sleep.
I am beginning to hate Daylight Savings Time.

Some people need more sleep. I need 10-12 myself. I'm always tired. There's a debate about a condition whether it exists or not called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. This is often what they label unknown fatigue when sleep apnea and normal reason's for it don't apply. Now my husband has sleep apnea, and can't afford the breathing mask he needs. He's fought with insurance companies over it and they keep refusing him. So he remains tired, waking exhausted - sleeping in on his days off, taking naps when he get's back from his classes.

A simple test can be run to see if you have sleep apnea, just have to wear a pulse/oxygen meter for the night on your finger and the next day they'll look at the read outs. If it shows you're oxygen dropping, they'll bring you in for sleep studies to see if you stop breathing as you sleep. If it comes back that your oxygen is not dropping, the only thing I can recommend vitamin wise is to add B-12 to your diet, though honestly, I never noticed it helping (it did help my husband though with his feeling of tiredness). My mother once told me I always took naps when I came home from school (well after the age that parents stop putting their children down for naps) – in fact, I still take naps. When we (my husband and I) took our trip to Vegas, I had to stop, go back to the hotel in the afternoon, and sleep for a few hours. Same thing when we took his little sister to Disneyland. I needed that extra rest. Now I take a medication called Provigil to help me wake up in the morning. If I don't take it, I will sleep all day (from 9-10pm the night before, until 3-7 pm the next day). I can keep that up day, after day, after day for weeks at a time. And as I said, my sleep apnea test came out negative. I do however live with chronic pain and don’t always reach the deep sleep required for restful sleep. This could be something you’re having trouble reaching as well, why? No idea but starting with a sleep apnea test is the best place.

Granted I sleep more during the winter hours, I almost hibernate. Is the tiredness a new thing? Or has it been going on for a long time? I still thing it wise to get tested for sleep apnea first, and take things from there.

Hope this helps =)

Realize you're not alone - we live in a nation of tired people. =).

Maybe it's because you use alot more energy than
usual at work or recreation.

Try going to bed earlier, even if you're not tired.
You can always watch tv while in bed.
Alcohol, if you drink just before bedtime.
Booze can mess with your sleep patterns.

But answering your question directly.
No. It's not normal. It's time to see your
doctor.

I'll bet you're experiencing some kind of
stress too. Don't let it own you.

Also, for some reason, you may not be getting
enough oxygen when you sleep.

Ask your doctor about sleep apnea.
Have him or her check every possibility.

Good luck and take care.

You don't give any indication of your age. Regardless, you may have what is referred to as "sleep apnea". That is a medical term where the soft tissue in your throat relaxes when you fall asleep and interrupts your breathing cycle intermittently. A sure sign is daytime sleepiness and snoring. It is usually easily corrected with a device that you wear that keeps the soft tissue in the open position. You should probably consult a MD who specializes in this type of disorder. He will likely have you have a sleep study where they monitor your sleep over one night. It will give you a definite answer. Sleep is important. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
