I am sorry to her this. Sometimes the stress of bringing them home and the new place is just to much. I am so sorry. I just got a Finch about 4 months ago, and he is okay, but this does happen. You probably already know, you can get another one for free. I know it doesn't replace the one that died, but at least you can. How old is your nephew? I hope he took care of it. That would also be a concern.

I'm sorry about the parakeet. It happend to me several times. A bird looks healthy in a pet store but dies and no one knows why. I bought an albino parakeet, she was pretty and white as snow. She looked so healthy, but a week later I came home from school and she was dead. Even though I had her a week, I loved her, I gave her a funeral, just like I do all my pets that die. I care about all my pets and I think they all deserve a proper funeral when they die.

We have to parakeets, one is a calm one that you can pick up another is wild and will only let you touch her to let her out of the cage. The first bird we got was Tweeters the calm one. Then when we got Nina (wild crazy INSANE) and once we put her in the cage with tweeters they immediately started dancing (bouncing up and down and tweeting to each other) which shows they r extremely happy, parakeets can learn to speak if you anly have one but if you have two together they are supposed to live longer. Maybe it was stress maybe it was sick...if you want to get another one for your neph then i suggest buying two, they are muchhappier that way!! :-) hope i helped and i hope your neph isn't too sad,
P.S. if u get a new one i also suggest keeping the pet at your place for awhile to make sure it wont die on your nephew right away again! Very sorry to hear about it,

My parakeet passed away a few months ago. He got really sick after sitting in his favorite plant we have hanging up. We checked the plant on an internet site devoted to Parakeets to make sure it was safe before we let him in but we didn't account for weeds growing in the container, well.. he got into a weed and within 12 hours he was gone. Many plants that are common house plants are poisonus to parakeets. I would check there first after ruling out the basics like food and water.
Sorry for your loss

Oh! I am sooo sorry to hear about your parakeet. Yes, i agree with someone that said the bird had too much stress. Parakeets are very delicate birds. So, you have to be very careful with them. It is very likely that the bird just got too stressed out or too scared.

RE:
dead parakeet?
purchased a parakeet for my nephew 2 weeks ago. bought him from a franchized pet store. my nephew came home last night to find the bird on the bottom of his cage. my sister assures me that they cared for boba to the very detail the store gave them. the bird even came with a certificate from a vet....

Could be just about anything, one common household danger for parakeets is nonstick frying pans. If the teflon is flaked off and then burns off, the fumes are deadly for small birds.

well u can do one thing, bring it back to the store, i mean cmon a bird can live prettttyyy long if u take good care of it, so go to the store and ask what was wrong, and if u can get another one, becuase soemtiems the birds are not in good condition when u get them.1!

I am sorry for your loss. But sometimes they just do that. No real reason. But what a great opener to chat about death and dying to your nephew.
