I think it would be a great idea. Then they could make their own decisions based on ALL religions - if they choose one at all. Maybe if we started teaching our kids to respect all beliefs the world wouldn't be in the shape its in right now. It's time we started thinking globally. Because if we don't start thinking global soon there isn't going to be a "we" left. We'll kill ourselves off either by war, lack of resources, etc.

My daughters go to a public school and in the 7th grade they learn world religions. We are a christian family but as I looked over the book I noticed Christianity was included so I was satisfied. But guess what when they got to the Christian chapter they took a break form that book and took up another subject. The teacher told me they would go back to that book after Spring Break. They learned Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, and a few others. They never did go back to that book and that chapter was left out totally. Yes I choose to put my kids in public school and they are strong in thier faith so oh well. But what is fair here? So yes it is a good idea if they do equal time for all religions but that would be impossible there are too many.

this is what happens in my kids school
right now she is being asked to discuss Wicca as the teacher isnt sure how to cover it ... but is wishing to including it at her request
her school is great and the kids are mixed cultures and all get on great and respect each other
this is a quote from her schools web site
Religious and Moral Education is concerned with informing the pupils of the great religious traditions which have shaped our present society and world communities over the past 5 thousand years.
However, RME is also concerned with the individual moral development of our pupils and seeks to promote the important values of tolerance, understanding and equality between peoples of all faiths, cultures and ethnicities and non-believers alike.

When I was in high school, I took a World Religions class. It wasn't mandatory, it could chosen as an elective. I found it really interesting and I think we should all take the time to learn about everyone else's beliefs. If either of my stepkids wanted to take a similar class, my husband and I wouldn't be against it.

the explanation why they do no longer coach faith at college is via the fact no longer surely everyone believes interior the comparable God/Deities. in addition to, the US claims to be a place the place human beings can stay in a dignified way this is inscribed interior the form offering freedom of speech, judgment of right and incorrect, and faith. If faith have been to income at college, all faith ought to learn no longer in basic terms Christianity yet different religions like Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, and so on. If in basic terms a unmarried faith is taught then basically the corporation wherein the direction is being taught is forcing their ideals on pupils who do no longer believe in that faith. subsequently, infringing on their constitutional rights.

i would rather send my children to a school where there is no mention of any religion at all...too many problems for me as a father, imagine the kids coming to me and not only asking me about where do they come from but about the bible, the coran , the talmud, the book of the sintoist, buddhism and all the rest

Maybe as an elective but not as a required course. I would have loved to have taken a course like this in high school.

As a college course, sure. As long as the class is optional.
