What is so 'great' about great britain?

In the uk we have the highest teen pregnancies, lowest rate of pay in europe , longest working hours, less holiday, A bad education system. Yob culture/ binge drinking. quickest growing divorce rate.Illegal immigrants and altogether a very unhealthy lifestyle. Does Great britain still exist?

The Great in Great Britain just means large, originally as opposed to what's now called Brittany in France.

But to answer the question, we are one of the richest and most powerful nations on earth. People almost never die of hunger or cold, which seems normal to us now but these were major killers everywhere until only 100 years ago. Even infectious diseases are no longer major killers. The fact is that having solved these problems allows us more time to focus on issues that to earlier generations would have seemed minor.

Oh, and for the poster above who claimed that we have not been invaded since 1066 - this isn't true. We were invaded in 1688 by William of Orange in what's euphemistically known as the Glorious Revolution. William overthrew James II and set himself up on the throne. He was supported by the Whig party, and the victors write the history so we don't think of it as in invasion - but that doesn't change the fact that a foreign king invaded with an army and deposed the existing king. What else would you call that?

Great Britain is not poor country, not troubled by wars with people fleeing for safety, not ever likely to affected by volcanoes or earthquakes, is not some dictatorship run by fear, has safe drinking water for many people, has a huge majority of the population literate and has managed to survived since 1066 without being invaded. Yes its not perfected but I can't believe how lucky I am to live here whatever smaller problem they may be cause when you see whats going on in other countries in the world you realise how Great Great Britain actually is.
