I "want war" because we were attacked and our people were killed for no more reason than that we are Americans. If we sit there and beg for mercy from ruthless, brutal, insane, remorseless, Islamic fascist murderers, we will not get it. Rather, we will get a rusty knife across our throats. If it requires us to take extra-ordinary measures to deal with subhumans of this caliber, then we should do so. It is our duty to protect our nation.

Our military cannot be defeated if our population is resolved and united, and the truth about our progress in the war is accurately reported. But it isn't being accuratelty reported. The drive-by media and the Democrat Party wants the defeat of the US. Why? That's the question you ought to be asking.

We DON'T want war....

We see the rest of the world as naughty children, who don't behave, and need discipline---sometimes we discipline them BEFORE they hurt each other, sometimes after.
But these children just CAN'T seem to get along peacefully...
And we WILL NOT let their arguments escalate to the point where the whole EARTH is threatened!

We are just tired of being condemned for being the responsible adult in a world full of bratty kids...

What might this world be like if the USA had never stepped into ww2? Or if we had let Bin Laden & his unholy minions just go on bombing whomever they pleased?
Think about the state of the world, and how it MIGHT have been if Hitler had won....
War is always evil, but sometimes a NECESSARY evil.

I don't get it. If the money used for war was used on scientific
research, we might have a cure for cancer, Alzheimer's or
aids.

But, I know what you're talking about. The stuff no one wants
to think about - our guys coming home without an arm,
a leg, an eye or worse. I don't know why people refuse
to see the real horror of war. Maybe because Bush has
sanitized this war, not letting the real images be shown on
the news. Like coffins - a real fact that our guys do lose their
lives & leave behind broken hearted family members.

Now Bush has cut hospital funding & funding for our vets.
I've already seen horror stories about vets returning home
to little or no pay. One vet was living in his car untill Dateline
stepped in. The whole situation is more disturbing than
some war enthusiasts are willing to admit.

i cannot answer your question, as it does not accurately reflect why i and others do not want to lose a war.

why do a lot of Americans on yahoo answers want to be nuked, or be beheaded, or just generally made miserable when we have to start doing like Israel does, and search every bag that gets taken on a bus?

whether you believe it or not, there IS a threat out there, and we don't want to lay down and die, we want to fight back. i hope you live long enough to figure out the answer to your question yourself.

ETA: i wasn't aware our military blows up all those places. gee, i wonder why they refused to kill all those guys at that cemetery for that funeral then? if a funeral isn't to be shot at, neither is a mosque, and I've never heard of us blowing up either of those. or a hospital, either. funny, why don't you mention that it's terrorists who do things like you said? why can't you see our troops are there to keep the terrorists from doing such?

Could you provide your statistics (out of 1,000 how many WANT war?). Could you provide the system you utilized to come up with your "A LOT" knowledge?
Most people who talk about NUKING civilians or CARPET BOMBING them are ignorant little kids who haven't a CLUE and need to quit sniffing what ever it is they have their snotty little noses stuck in.

WANT war? Nobody WANTS war. Sometimes it is unavoidable, sometimes it is simply the best solution to a political problem.

War is politics by other means - When things that are so vital to your national interests cannot be gained by other means and it is cheaper in blood and treasure to wage war, one wages war. It sucks.

I've not seen many Americans seriously talking about nuking civilians and nobody carpet bombs anything any more. That's tremendously ineffective and expensive - We don't waste explosives like that any more. People DO use those phrases as hyperbole, but not as part of a serious discussion of strategy and tactics. (I'll attach a link to The Three Conjectures - A discussion of the possible use of nuclear weapons in the middle east and when such a use would be not only sensible, but mandatory). Outside of certain circumstances, such a thing would be foolish.

Try not to simplify things into easy talking points "It's because America has never seen the horrors of war on Mainland America" - Not only does such a thing show your ignorance of history (Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexican American War, Civil War), but such a gross oversimplification shows that you really have no in-depth understanding of the issues involved in why nations war.

Too much confidence in the military and in the government? Are you kidding? Most Americans - of either political stripe - don't trust the Government to correctly deliver the mail, much less conduct a war. We do have a lot of confidence in our military for good reason - it's never lost. (Vietnam was a political defeat 3 years after our troopers left. Look at the military balance and tell me who won the military aspect of that fight - But wars are more than military action).

So..WHY do they 'want war'? Because many of us see war as a requirement to deal with an on-going threat from an out-of-control ideology. The groups we feel we must war against are irrational - from our point of view - intractable, and unable to be treated with, dealt with, or reasoned with. The only solution left, is force, or surrender.

Further, ask yourself why others want war with us? Iran has been at war with the US since the 1970's. Radical Islam has been at war with the US for even longer. When you hijack our planes, destroy our buildings, attack our warships, bomb our embassies, hijack our ships, behead our citizens and blow up restaurants, you're pretty much fighting a war against us. For those of you who say the Radical Islamists lack the means, you have no clue. Look to the armies of Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Syria, look to their nuclear capabilities, look to the damage they've done and tell me they have no means. Look to the nearly 8,000 fatal terrorist attacks since 9/11 and say they have no means.

Whether you want war or not, if someone else wants war with you - you're going to have a war.

This is a huge simplification of an incredibly complex situation, but it gives you a 'sound-bite' level answer to your 'sound-bite' question.

Hope it helps.

EDIT: You can't really redefine what the horrors of war are. Making it have to involve tanks and aircraft only makes it more 'modern' - Ask the folks in France during WWI about the horrors of war. Ask the folks in Rwanda about the true evil of war? You might re-phrase your question to be "the current generation of Americans have not had the horrors of war on our national soil" - though that wouldn't exclude the many terrorist attacks on our soil.

Read some history my friend. Read about what happened to towns, homes, families during ANY war - ANYWHERE and tell me again we need to have tanks or planes - In ages past, they were called Cavalry and Cannon. Read about Baltimore and Washington and Boston in the Revolution and in 1812. Read about most ANY town in the Civil War; start with Gettysburg. Then compare what military folks call 'collateral damage' in ANY other war to the damage being done by the ultra-cautious and ultra-precise American military and tell me again how bad American troops in a combat zone are. Then look at the folks we're FIGHTING - the folks who USE civilians as shields, who USE civilians as WEAPONS, who DELIBERATELY target civilians in order to increase their terror and get better billing on the evening news and tell me about the horrors of war.

Edited to remove overly mean tone - I'm sick with a cold and cranky. Sorry 'bout that. :-)

YR....I believe that you're question is based on a false premise.
I don't think the Americans that you speak of "want war". I think they just want freedom from terrorism. I believe that you want that too, don't you?

You also say that..."america has never seen the horrors of war on mainland america" Well...I have to disagree. Thousands of Americans died on 9/11 from an act of war. I don't think those Americans wanted war either....but they sure got it.

We don't want war, but since we are in, I support it, I support our soldiers over there fighting it, I support our President and his decisions. Bush doesn't like war, but it was thrown in his lap. Hillary said if she had been president, we wouldn't be over there, Yeah, she's probable right, she would still be setting behind he desk filing and painting her toe nails. Hoping none of those Goat farmers don't disturb her yelling, hey Bill, stay in here where I can keep an eye on you.
