Not in my opinion, u can buy a cake mix for less than 1/2 the price and make one at home urself, that tastes better than one from the store`s bakery which is usually dry. If that's too much trouble, Pepperidge Farm has frozen cakes, although small, r very good and u can buy one at WalMart for under $3. They r as good as a cake made from scratch, including the icing.

well that depends. yes if you are a good cake decorator and you're good enough to decorate your own cake; and no if you are a bad one. also they are not worth the cost because you can buy a box of cake mix for 2.99 at the supermarket but you pay like $6-$30 dollars for a cake.

As far as ingredients go, no. But if you really can't frost a homemade cake and need that finished touch then maybe. I would personally never buy the stuff.

it's the labor that you're paying, the supermarkets electricity fees & etc.
