I had a cold, and it was going away, but now i'm sick again thanks to the rain. My ear has been hurting slightly, but i don't want to classify it as an infection if i'm not sure.

People can get ear infections no matter what their age is. The younger children tend to get them more often, usually because they are sucking on bottles, and the liquid pool around their ear canals causing bacterial growth and infection. Adults can get them, but are usually related to sinus problems, including incomplete drainage. A true infection usually requires antibiotics to clear it up, because bacterial infections must be treated with antibiotics. If it is viral, you simply have to treat the symptoms and ride it out until it is over. The problem is, it is almost impossible to tell the difference. Usually a high fever indicated presence of bacteria, whereas a viral infection doesn't usually cause a spike in temprature. Just talk with your DR. about it and see what he thinks you should do.

God bless!

Pain in the ear, usually one side, but u can get a double infection as well. Some loss of hearing maybe. Youll know when u have one tho for sure. Very painful. I got them on a regular basis probably until i was about 12. At least one a year. My mom said that the dr had told her it was bc i had an immature ear or something like that.

An outer ear infection will hurt when you move your ear, like if you pull on your ear lobe. It's also called a swimmer's ear.
A regular ear infection will commonly follow a cold or upper respiratory infection. It's common to have pain, sometimes fever.
Any age can get them, but it's more common in children (inner ear kind) cause their ear canals are so small.

Pain is the main sign. Age...well I'm 46 and I had a stinker of an infection last week (in both ears too). They do not (unfortunately) just stop at a certain age.
