Excel in many areas of school, join clubs an be a leader in organizations (even if it means starting your own.) Look into an internship for your local congressman...never hurts to be in the good graces of his local office before he writes you a letter of recommendation! Any service academy looks for ways that you set yourself above peers... Athletic excellence, book smarts, volunteering in the community, demonstrated leadership, etc. Also, you may want to look into doing ROTC at a normal university. All the perks of a normal school, all the benefits when you get commissioned, and none of the academy bs of getting your butt kicked and denegrated by seniors. Oh, and there are attractive members of the opposite sex and you can date them and stay out late, and travel on the weekends, and wear civilain clothes and be a grown-up at the age of 18. But if you think you have something to prove and/or you cannot run your own life right now, have fun at the academy!

If you are a between the ages of 13 & 17 start by checking out the local Civil Air Patrol go to a meeting and take a list of questions and obseve the goings on there. you could even join if you like it.
If you are older go talk to a local recruiting office ask questions take notes and bring something to put there info packets in they can provide lots of reading material.

I go to the Naval Academy.

My tips: Stay in great physical condition.
Make your grades awesome, especially in Math, Physics, Chemistry, etc. Take challenging honors, AP, or IB courses.
Do things you enjoy, that way to excel in them and can assume leadership roles, such as club president, Gold Award/Eagle Scout, team Captain, etc.

Good luck on becoming a zoomie.

The same extracurricular activities that would get you into a top notch college. And don't forget your LETTER from your state representative. I hope you're no higher than your sophomore year if you're planning on one of the military academies now.
