I don't think you're necessarily born with it. Lots of allergies are things that people develop in life, like I know lots of allergies to plants develop after you move to a place where those plants are. And some allergies are things that you eventually recover from or outgrow--I used to be really allergic to milk when I was a baby but I'm not anymore.
If you're concerned that you might be allergic to your dog(s), you should talk to your doctor--they might send you to an allergist, who will perform a test to determine if you're allergic to dogs.
I hope you're not, though! I'm allergic to dogs and it sucks.

I have been told over the years that yes you can develop allergies to anything, apparently over time your body's immune system changes, so you may not have been allergic to dogs, but possibly something else, then as time passes the allergy you have changes into an allergy to something else. But you have to start with an allergy of some sort.

Allergies develop after exposure to the allergen. The tendency to develop allergies has a genetic component but not the specificity. Have a nice day.
