She was his wife, right? I mean, if I got married, pious man and all, but you can bet that very same night BANG! (all romantic of course, but still BANG)

It's a way to give women an example of perfection that is impossible to attain, being a virgin mother. It is to keep women down, to give them names like whore and s lut and remove the power of sexuality from their lives. It is entirely bogus.

Because in that day being engaged in the Jewish mind was the same as being married, yet not formerly consumated by the marriage ceremony, nor by sexual intercourse. If one had sex during this time with another individual it was looked on as adultery.
Mary was a virgin this is attested to by the gospel writers
The reason is that she need to be a virgin so that she could be the bearer of the holy child Jesus Christ. For once a woman has had intercourse, her seed is made impure.

Mary the mother of Jesus. She gave birth to God. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't sleep with anybody after such an experience. Also, she was 13 when she "married" Joseph and he was around 55.
Also, this means that the most important attribute was given to a woman, not a man

Well she didn't get married to Joseph until she was already pregant with Jesus. The reason that they didn't sleep together was because sin is passed from the father. By her being a virgin, this kept the 100% holiness that Jesus was and is today.

Mary was not a virgin forever, she had many children after Jesus who were not from divine conception.
