After seeing what my late mum went through when she was dieing of cancer I would say Yes. Anyone who gives this answer a thumbs down rating obviously has not seen someone who has not eaten ANYTHING in 12 weeks down to less than 5 STONE. It was a blessing when she finally passed away,She was no longer in pain.

If I lived in a country where it was legal I would purchase a sucide kit for my friend and hold their hand as they died. However, I don't live in a country that gives someone true freedom over their body. So what I would do is have them put on a morphine drip. They would slowly and painlessly float off into the afterlife.
I haven't been put in a situation like this yet thank the gods but my family has. My grandfather who died of lung cancer was eventually put on a drip after a failed battle with his cancer. My mother had one of her very best friends put on a morphine drip when she ODed and was mostly brain dead but was responding to pain.
We do it for our pets why not for us? I share my mothers views on this obviously and she even told me that if she is put in a situation such as you describe she would collect a lethal amount of her meds in a jewlary box or some other inconspicuous object. Then when she finally had enough she'd ask for that object and some privacy and let it all go.
I'd do the same if it were me or I'd jump off something really high because I've always wanted to fly. ^_^
I sort of over answered your question lol Sorry for going off on a tangent.

It depends on where your morals lie and what you think that will mean. If it were me I would be on the fence. One,its someone close to me,and i would do anything to see them peaceful and out of pain, and to end their long suffering.but, then id start to think,is this murder?I mean,I have consent to do it but as a human being do i have the right and the authority to take a life? is it in my hands to say whether its time for someone to go or not? But then you would have to think, well what would other people see this as? If people knew what I did,and didnt know that the person asked you to with no proof besides your word, would I be persecuted? Its a touchy subject with pros and cons and no clear cut solution. at the end of the day you have to decide whats right and whats not.

Having checked all the other options, and made sure there was no better path (hospice with best pain control, for example), yes.
Dignitas in Switzerland, probably, if they could travel.
If not I'd be facing serious legal problems.
But *not* to do it to an animal would be liable under law as cruelty.
Why allow that sort of pain for another human being out of my fear or distaste? That, to my mind is morally unacceptable.

* No, that is still murder no matter how much pain they are in. I have heard that in times of war a fellow soldier will step on a bomb or get shot up and is dying but in terrible pain like being blown in half and his best friend will shoot him, but most of us are not faced with that kind of situation. We do not know what we would do under those situations.
I have been instructed by my wife and she by me that if she or I are not conscious and only machines are keeping us alive to give the doctor permission to pull the plug, but we have not made up a living will as of yet, but need to in case one of us goes first and is not around. *

this is one i can honestly say 'i have no idea what i would do'...never faced that situation-although when i was younger, a relative of a good friend was dying of cancer-and in those days the docs never LET you just give up and let nature take its course...he endured chemo and radiation almost to the very end, and the only thing that eased his suffering was doing bong hits...and i made sure he never ran out of dope...was it illegal? certainly. immoral? that's another question entirely and i struggled with it, but i would do it again if faced with the same situation...

No. And I would tell them so without hesitation.
Since the chance of the cure being found the next day is never zero, I would not end their life nor would I stand by and allow them to.

I was in this situation and I did not. My friend was on plenty of morphine so he wasn't in pain but he wanted to die. In the end he lived four more days before passing. He was glad that he had those four more days.

No way. I have witnessed people who were given up to die in a few months by their doctors are still living after 20 years.
