My particular answer may seem overly simple:
What is more important than a search for understanding our Creator?
Maybe even embarking upon a relationship with Him ....whoa!!!

Well I have several different reasons:

1. Social basis: Why all people have somehow come up with the idea of a Divine force, and laid down religions that look pretty similar to each other, fundamentally. Why do some religions spread their word by active proselytizing while others just tend to be adopted voluntarily.

2. Rituals: How the different rituals originated, and what purpose do they serve. Are there similarities across religions? Did certain rituals originate at the start of the religion or were they incorporated from other faiths in order to gain a following among those of that faith?

3. Spirituality: This is probably the most important to me. What spiritual practices are practiced by various faiths? Did spirituality originate from any one religion? Is there any crossover in practice or belief?

These and other reasons, more or less.

To be entirely honest, I first became interested in religion because I was engrossed in it during my early years.

Once I reached about twelve, I began deeply questioning my faith. I wondered if it all was real, or simply something I had been brainwashed to believe.

After a while of contemplation and long discussions with a theologian, I finally decided there was enough evidence to sustain my belief.

My personal relationship with God came later.

I like to try to understand why people do the things they do. I'm not really interested in religion per se, I've tried a couple on for size in the past. I am a Christian, but not religious.
