I don't know if it helps but I know it does not harm. Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Take about 8 ounces of warm to slightly hot water and add a teaspoon of salt. Mix it up and gargle with it. Do this in the morning and before you go to bed for a few days.
