Did you say "caught" ? I would love to see a child read the Bible. As a matter of fact, if any member of my family wanted their own Bible, I would take them to the bookstore and let them pick out a couple of Bibles - one for carrying to church and one for a study Bible, and perhaps some Bible software as well. Anything that would keep them interested in the Word of God instead of the things that Satan has put in children's paths today - such as drugs I'm all for.

The question should be rephrased as: What "should" an atheist do if he caught his kid reading the Bible? He should realize that what Christ said about children being typical of the Kingdom of Heaven is true.

Explain to him that it's a good ancient book, like Aesop's Fables or Homer's Iliad and Odyssey but in no way a Good Book. As he is an adolescent, I might point out to him that Song of Solomon has some hot passages.

If I where in the 10-40 window, probably rip into them about casually reading a forbidden text. People get killed for that sort of thing in some places.

I don't know if 'caught' is the right word.
As an atheist I'd be happy they were reading any book, yes even the bible - but I'd be ready to answer as such questions as 'daddy, why did condone mass murder?'

Congratulate him/her for doing something that many Christians never have.
The contradictions of the Bible are so numerous that they should be readily apparent to any intelligent person who reads it. It's too bad that few Christians really do that.

I wouldn't care. He has every right to make up his own mind. And reading the bible just gives me more reason to be an atheist. I often peruse it's pages of fiction.

I would be thankful and offer to help my children further with it. I would also be interested to read the Bible with them.
