Here in CA it's normally about $2 or a bit more. Sometimes theyr'e 10 for $10. But the price is going down because of the hard freeze this winter.

Our Wal Mart (in TX)has them 2/1.00 right now. They are still hard and green so you better believe we are taking advantage of the great price. I like to buy them hard and then let them ripen at home on the counter. I did get some firm ripe ones and we have been eating them like crazy for days. We love avocados.
Usually we pay from 1.29 - 1.89 each.

Anywhere from $.79 to $3. The more you pay the better shape they are in and larger they are. Usually small bruised ones are $.79.

Walmart averages about 1.25 a piece yet they are small and not as ripe as I like them. Meijers averages about 4 to 5 for a dollar but a lot larger and more flavored.
