after rinsing the rice several times and draining it
melt some butter in a pot then add about twice as much water as rice and put the rice in
let it boil
then when the water has been absorbed and the amount left is about a half an inch lower than the surface of the rice(the bubbles should have made like holes in the rice), turn off the heat and cover the pot
after about five minutes stir then cover it again until the rest of the water is absorbed

Quick rice? About 5 minutes.
Brown Rice? 30 minutes in boiling water.
Sushi Rice? 30-40 minutes in boiling water.
Wild Rice? 45 minutes in boiling water.
Better yet! Read the package instructions! That's you're best bet! That's why they put them there! Now if you bought a 25 or 50 lb. sack of rice then use the steps above. Adding a little butter adds some flavor too.

You don't have to buy a special container, just one that can go in the microwave with a lid. You need to WASH the rice thoroughly (I fill up the container, then swirl my hand through the rice and tip out the water about 3 times before filling it up for the last time), otherwise you'll get very gluggy rice. It doesn't matter how much rice you put in, as long as the water is one 'knuckle' above the rice (from fingertip to the first bend/knuckle in your finger closest to the fingertip). Then pop the lid on and microwave on HIGH for 15 minutes, then LET IT SIT for 10 minutes. Perfect every time! :)

Ok if you want the real Chinese way to cook rice...here you go. Just take 1 C of rice and put in the pot. Run cold water over the water repeatedly, rinsing until clear. Fill the pot until the water comes up to the first knuckle of your finger. Put on high heat and bring to a boil.When water comes to a boil, turn down to the lowest setting on your stove and simmer for 15 minutes. You will have authenic Chinese rice. Happy Chinese New Year... February 18!!!!

Buy one of those vegetable/rice steamers (Black & Decker). It's easy and you don't have to stand there and stir the rice constantly.
