I've been reading extensively about the leaders of Mega Churches and what is going on in Colorado Springs...James Dobson...Joel Osteen...Pat Robertson...Focus on the Family...and their stunning crossover into politics - which has corrupted, in my mind, both Christianity and our constitution. I have some unbelievable quotes to add if you're interested. My question is, are you a Christian and does this anger you, too? It scares me as much as terrorism (I think they use the same tactics, and worse).
Disclosure: I am somewhere between Agnostic and Atheist.
Thank you for your answers, this is a sincere question.

If you would, please be specific - I am really wanting to hear your thoughts about this - Evangelicals, too, that would be great. I realize not everybody is the same.

Yes, I'm a Christian and I feel disgusted by the way the evangelicals have taken ahold of the GOP and politics. They don't care about child starvation, environment, child prostitution in Cambodia, or the genocide in Darfur. They care about abortion and gay marriage. How can they be following the word of Christ when they fill their sermons with vile hatred against those they consider inferior to them? I want their power to dwindle and for them to be forgotten.

As an Evangelical....I really like the things Joel Olsteen has to say and James Dobson.....Pat Robertson I take what he says with a grain of salt. I think that as leaders they will be more accountable to God for those that they lead astray so they need to be careful what they say.

Angry, dissapointed and disgusted. They use the name of God to hatemonger. The people you mention are televangelists, which are even worse than the normal evangelists because they make millions off of other people. They convince them to send mega money so they can live in their mansions, while the poor people are eating cat food because that's all they can afford from their social security checks after sending all their money to these thieves. They simply make me ill and they give all christians a bad name.
They tell all these people they'll be raptured away before the tribulation begins, so when it does come, these people will lose their faith. The rapture is not biblical and nothing ticks me off more than purposely misleading people. They actually seem to think they can help hurry things along by getting involved with Israel. Please...... you can't hurry God and since theres no rapture, why in the world would anyone want to hurry it along?
All in all, they are people who misinterpret the bible, spread their misinterpretations around, convince other people they actually have a clue what they're talking about, and like all truly ignorant people, don't even seem to have a clue of the damage they're causing.
So in answer to your question, they tick me off royally.

I don't see the problems with churches involved in government. That is perfectly constitutional. What I don't like is government in churches. As a large majority of the country is Christian our view and needs should be seen to who better than the churches to organize such things.
I was long ago dissatisfied with most TV preachers.

For too many years the Christians in this country sat on their butts and did nothing but watch the moral decay explode around them. They were "comfortable Christians" enjoying their pot lucks and their Sunday and Wednesday services and supporting their missionaries in Africa and Rawanda. They did not take a stand and 46 million babies died to abortion. They did not take a stand and homsexuals and feminists came out of their closets and began corrupting the minds of the children. They did not take a stand against the pedafiles and whores and corruption in corporate America, nor did they take a stand up against the likes of Hitler and Stalin and that Chinese dude (fogot his name). They did not take a stand for anything.
There is no question that our family dynamics have suffered, teen pregnancy skyrocketed, sexual immorality is now the norm in this country, and no-one is ashamed of anything - everything has to be PC.
I am glad that there is a movement to try to restore this nation to a level of moral integrity. Not to say that only Christians adhere to a higher level of morality, or that all Christians do so successfully, but it is that Christian - "Jesus" way of striving for righteousness (holiness, clean heart, blameless soul before God) that keeps us from doing so many of the things that so many "lawless" folks do without a second thought. Like sleeping with your neighbor's wife or aborting your unborn baby. We KNOW it is wrong, and if we still do it, we are not doing it without the burden of guilt before our Righteous Lord.
A little "burden of guilt" could go a long long way in this country about now. Maybe creeps like Michael Devlin wouldn't have had such an easy time doing what he did to those little boys.
(BTW, I live near Ben Ownby and work with Shawn Hornbeck's aunt - those boys were hurt REALLY REALLY badly by this creep! Shawn has a long long recovery ahead of him. Please keep them in your prayers)

Churchianity is a heathen religion. The name of YHVH is blasphemed among the heathen because of them. Very few pretend to follow the word of Scriptures, and those only barely pretend. The Creator YHVH sent the Savior YAHOSHUA! They said in Ex 23:13 we should not use the names of heathen mighty ones!

Evangelical Christianity is a heresy and a disaster. They go by the Bible alone and make up their own interpretations. That is why true Christianity is found in the original church of Jesus, the Catholic Church.

Proverbs 18:17 says:
"The first to plead his case seems right,
Till the other party examines him."
You are listening to one side of the story. Those who speak against these men are malicious slanderers who have nothing but their own wicked agenda in mind. I see things from the other side - how the so called tolerant Left is continually bringing law suits against Christians to stifle their right of freedom of speech. They hate these men because they stand up against the evil of licentious men who can't bear to hear the name of God mentioned in public. It might interest you to know that the word Devil comes from a Greek word, diabolos, which means a malicious slanderer. The next time you hear malicious slander, you might want to consider where it is coming from.

There are some things that are 'incorrect' in 'Christianity' currently in the USA. 'Christians' not getting them 'correct' may be turning off some 'non-christians', and perhaps many 'Christians' in USA have earned that 'disrespect' presently. Example; the scriptural 'old testament' is not Genesis-Malachi but the law of Moses. (Can one have the law of Moses, before Moses was born (Exodus 2)?
