sometimes when someone is a danger to themselves, they are a danger to others. When someone does not believe in life, they may not care if they take out someone's elses by accident.

people are not thrown into mental hospitals , they are admitted either because they want to be admitted or a psychiatrist has deemed it necessary for them to be admitted against their will, because they are a danger to self or others. depression can be a form of mental illness, and people go to mental hospitals for help and to alleviate their symptoms that are bothering them. people who end up in a mental hospital, because they were depressed and suicidal, usually have their symptoms alleviated and return back to society in a lot better shape then when they came in. i worked in a mental hospital for 30 years, and have seen hundreds of very sick and suffering people come to the hospital and leave much better, and are able to enjoy their life much more. treating mental illness, however is still not an exact science, and unfortunately, we always hear about the failures, but not the successes

People who want to kill themselves are mentally ill as the normal is to want to live and enjoy life. It is just as sick as wanting to kill another. This is the opinion of one who has been very depressed at times. Depression is truly a malfunction of the mind.

people are admitted into care in order to prevent them from harming themself or someone else. the hospitail attempts to offer the best possible care for the person . most often no being in the ward is not as depressing as you might think. it is often a relieve to see that others are feeling as you do. another relief is that there is no distingson in the ward rich or poor educated or not people are people . for the most part i think it is the patient talking to other patients that does the most to help people. that and a possibe change of some kind with a medication.
