My older son quit the bottle about the time he turned four. The younger one was done with the bottle at 8 months. Each child is different.
Try giving her a bottle of water at night instead of milk. It satisifies the urge for the bottle, yet gently discourages since there is no milk. Also, a warm bath before sleeping will make her sleep through the night.
Once she is sleeping through the night, the bottle habit will be easier to break.
We tried a variety of "Sippy" cups but the Straw cups work better - colorful and attractive ones encourage the child to drink as well.
Worst case scenario - let her scream for a while. Once she gets the idea that screaming will not get her the bottle, she will calm down. Remember - you have to be gentle, yet firm.

ok , so what if she got really attached to a certain kitchen knife, or likes to play with the aspirin? No amount of screaming would let a parent allow this. So I often wonder why parents don't see that whatever fits they would put up with for something truly dangerous, they wont put up with for something as simple as a bottle. It boils down to laziness in parenting. Believe me I know its hard, sometimes you just cannot seem to deal with it and its easier to let them have their way, but its still laziness. The child will not die. She will throw a fit and cry , of course. But is thats just teaching her that if she makes a big enough stink, mom and dad will cave. There are ways. People do it all the time. i mean if the child still wants the bottle at 6, will they STILL cave???

You can have a "bottle Fairy" come and get them. Tie them up on a tree outside for the bottle fairy to come and get them and in the morning have little treatts.toys were the bottles were.
Works for pacifiers I have heard might work here too. if she needs water in the night get her a glass of water, but remember that bottles can lead to earlt tooth decay so be hard on her. She will get over it fast.

I really hope your kidding! That's a little ridiculous don't ya think?! If you are serious you need to tell her she is too old for them and take it cold turkey if she throws a fit then let her it will only last a few days! If she insist give her a little drink of water out of a normal cup--no sippie cups. Why did it even get to this???

you don't give her the bottle and she will eventually stop crying and after a few days she will stop all together. she is just use to it. it will take some time but it is really best for her to stop. and i hope that she is only getting water in the bottle cause it will really hurt her teeth.

I would either go cold turkey and throw them away or if your parents are a little leary of that, then change to a sippy cup and only put water in it. Milk or juice will rot her teeth and especially if sitting in her mouth while sleeping.

that is horrible parenting, and I can say that because my mother did the same thing to me. But to offer advice, take her bottle, take a knife, and cut the top off of it and tell her now it is a cup and she is a big girl so use cups now.
