I have been to NYC numerous times and have done the majority of touristy things. However, in May I will be In NYC for one full day and wonder if anyone has any suggestions? I will be alone on this trip.

A good way to start the day is by feeling like a kid again at F.A.O. Schwarz. The giant toy-lover's paradise has been a New York fixture since it arrived in the city 130 years ago. The elegant Plaza Hotel is just across the street and offers plenty of opportunity to get into the holiday spirit. For shoppers, afternoon tea at the Palm Court offers a respite to linger and make last-minute additions to the gift list.

New York's grand department stores, located on and near Fifth Avenue are famous for their elaborate holiday window displays. Saks Fifth Avenue (between 49th and 50th Streets) is worth a peek, as is Lord and Taylor (at 38th St.). A few blocks southeast is Macy's — the crown jewel of the city's Christmas decorations.

When the shopping is done and night begins to descend, there's nothing like the sight of the what is perhaps the world's most famous Christmas tree, located near Rockefeller Center. For those who don't mind waiting in what are usually long holiday-season lines, a twirl around the ice rink rounds out the day.well xmas is only 10 months away ha ha

If you feel up for it, I would forego the tour and check out NYC the way it is meant to be seen...by foot, subway and cab. I'm not as angry about tourists as the last guy, but NYers are not too hot on those tour busses. From what I've seen, they are a rip off. If you want a more authentic NYC experience, I suggest you walk around the village around Washington Square Park (generally South and West of WSP). It's all very safe, but there are a lot of random stores and restaurants. You may also want to come to the World Trade Center, which is within walking distance of Wall Street (for sight-seeing), the South Street Seaport (shopping...although a bit too much like a typical mall and the restaurants are all terrible tourist traps) and Battery Park (for relaxing; it's also the location of the ferry to the Statue of Liberty). Subways on the weekend are often messed up due to construction, so your best bet is walking or cabbing. If you take a subway, ask the station staff first. Trust me on that one. The weekend subways are nuts. One last point. The last guy mentioned that if you take out a map, you'll get mugged. I don't know what he's on, because that's more like NYC in 1986. Nowadays, feel free to ask people for directions. Everyone is generally very friendly. Get a map, but it might be a good idea to get a pocket map, so it isn't unruly.

Find out what TV shows film in NYC and try to get tickets to attend in the audience. What about Ellen Degeneres Show? Or other talk shows. I love to get up early and stand outside NBC studios with a sign saying "Hello Mom" for the morning show.

Go shopping. Bloomingdale's, Macy's, JC Penny, Sears etc. Do you even have to ask?
