Does anyone know of a site that teaches Spanish, or anyone willing to give lessons? I'm trying to teach my kids and make it fun. Also wondering if there if there is a difference between proper Spanish and everyday Spanish, like there is in proper English and everyday English?

Yeah there two types of Spanish... some people who speak English and Spanish don't really know the correct way to speak it... and miss use words... some use words in what is called SPANGLISH... a mix of English and Spanish... for example... some people say "CARPETA" for Carpet when its really "ALFOMBRA" this is just one of the many miss used words in Spanish... if you want i can help you... my e-mail is luisangelrivero@yahoo.com.... i can show you a couple of website in which you can learn the correct Spanish...

Oh yeah, there is a huge difference in Classroom Spanish and Street Spanish.

There's also hundreds of different dialects between Spanish speaking nations.

I grew up in NYC as a Cuban American. Never really knew any Mexicans (as most Latinos in NYC are Cuban, Dominican, or Puerto Rican).

I found myself embarrassing myself constantly when I moved to California (Little Mexico).

It's kind of like how in Britain they say "******" to mean cigarette, but here in the US it's a derogatory term for a gay man.

Well in Cuban society we say "coger" to mean grab, fetch, pick up, get, etc.

In Mexican communities its a vulgar term to mean "have sexual intercourse".

Any textbook should be good at teaching proper Spanish, if you want to learn some idioms/slang, check out Barnes and nobles, I found some good ones that are helping me with my "Mexican Spanish".
