Ok, I have to do this. If the duck has a white head and dark body, that's a color mutation called "Canizie" and occurs in any breed of duck (though it's recessive and so not common).

It sounds like an upright breed, which means that they walk with chests held high, not parallel to the ground, so it's likely Not a muscovy.

Look at the tail feathers. In all but the muscovy, the male will have a little curl where the tail meets the body. The female will lack this curl. Sometimes it's not a really bold trait, but you should be able to see it if you're looking for it. (domestic ducks other than the muscovy all are related to the common mallard, and the tail trait has carried through in almost all of the breeds)

An adult muscovy looks more like a vulture than an eagle, having a red lumpy face. So I doubt that's it.

Otherwise, it's hard to tell without more information or a picture.

I'd say probably some form of runner.

Sounds like the Japanese Baldehaded Trotting Duck. Male is much larger frame than the female and is more vocal

Look under "D" for "Duck" in any encyclopedia. They have MOST of the common ducks, with pictures, listed. (Although you can't have Mallards for pets, I love them. They have dark green on their head. The solid white with yellow beaks are pretty too!)
