How can you tell the difference between a male and a female weero? I have black and white ones. I really appreciate it, thanks!

As a breeder and a Ranger appointed for the observation and protection of cockatiels or wirro's I can assure you the cheek patch color is a fallacy with a 50/50 success rate.
Christies answer is the better recognition for differences in the sex of these birds, but even that can be flawed. DNA testing is the only sure way to find the sexes unless you wait till breeding time. Then ring the males with a color band.

It may also be noted that the male is more vocal than the female . females rarely if ever talk ( now theres a turn up for the books!)

With the grey tiel or wiiro is much easier, as the femal develops horizontal tail bars ( zebra effect) Male has plain tail.

I agree with the breeder ..... FEMALES are unable to whistle like the males. Males have very prominent orange on their cheeks, females duller. If the bird is young though, you cannot tell until it is at least 6-9 months old (or it goes through it's first molt which happens about these ages). Females passed this age will have 'horizontal bars' in their tails when you are looking at them straight on (their beak facing your nose). There are SOME variations on color where this rule does not apply.. if the tiels are younger than their first molt ALL have the 'bar' thing. Look for one that makes a 'whistle' and then you'll know it's male. Females kinda 'scream' instead of whistle. Young ones don't do much, because they haven't learned yet. Trust the breeders, we know :)

With the whiteface mutation you have to wait until they have had their first molt.

A male will have a pure white face, where a female will have a darker, dirty looking face.

The whiteface in the front is male, the female in the photo is a normal gray.

the best way to get the best answer is to have your vet do a blood test. This is the most accurate.
