The airlines would prefer for you to have some type of photo ID on any flight. You do not need a passport on a domestic flight. If you have a school ID that will be fine. I work for The Department of Homeland Security and it is always a good idea to have a photograph ID of yourself whenever you travel anywhere, whether by car, bus or plane, just in case of an accident where you can be identified.

Assuming you mean US domestic, the answer is yes, you need an ID if you are 15 and over and traveling alone.

A state ID is fine to travel within the USA.
