We have a new rolled flat roof and want to install a deck on it. Wood is too heavy and vinyl't too expensive. We can't use a water soluble product because there are some areas where water pools when it rains. Does anyone make some sort of rubberized material which can be laid over the roofing material or sprayed onto the rolled roofing which is durable enough to make a deck?

I would not make a deck on a flat roof for a lot of reasons. Even though that nice flat area looks inviting, you could be setting yourself up for a lot of roof problems down the road.

Yes, there is a rubber membrane that can be put on a roof. The manufacturer does not recommend walking on it or placing anything in contact with the rubber for fear of poking a hole in it. How would you put a deck on top of this?

If you just decide to use the rolled roofing as a deck, think about your lawn chairs, etc. I have seen people try this, and inevitably a chair leg pokes a hole in it, and now you have a leak.

Trust me, any traffic on a roof is not a good thing.

I do not know what a rolled flat roof is but if you want to put a deck coating on a deck that is basically rubber, the material is called neoprene/hypalon and can be 1 or 2 layers- one of each. one layer coatings of hypalon can be just as good but either must be protected from the suns ultraviolet light - put a carpet on top- repainting and repairing, each year, any damaged areas is mandatory. Furniture legs will pierce unprotected membrane , which will allow moisture through, and once trapped cannot escape . The heat of the sun expands the moisture and separates the membrane from the sub-strata. Deterioration occurs very quickly as rot. Carpet all decks to protect any applied membrane.

They now make the kind of deck you are looking for. It is a portable, (sort of) plasticated, (plastic-like wood material) pre-made system you put down in sections, and it floats on the roof. It doesn't really float, its just not permanently attached. Its expensive, though, so it might be out of the budget. Look at the kinds of places that have "decking systems". I used to know the name, permalock or something. Its on the tip of my tongue, but I just bit my tongue, and I can't think through the pain. (really, its out there, on the web, I'm sure.)
