personally, I reject the concepts god(s), soul, afterlife, psychics, paranormal activity and ESP as truth.
My life is nonetheless extremely enjoyable and full of excitement. Go figure. I have friends, a job I enjoy, I have love and lost and loved again, a world to travel and experience, and a wonderful range of sensations including thoughts, music, books, conversations and other stimuli that keep me interested.
The knowledge that I have what amounts to a short time on this wondrous planet makes me want to live it to the fullest even more. Strangely, none of this requires god(s) for me.

Geez don't bother with one question at a time.
A higher power? No, what does that even mean??
Reasons not to believe in God? Logical impossibility, zero physical evidence, the ignorance of creationists, the contradictions of the holybooks, the replacing with real theories of everything taught by holy texts...
Keep me happy for the rest of my life? So if your wife died you'd tell yourself she'd gone on holiday and that she'd be back soon? Hmm... So you're not interested in the truth or reality but want an emotional crutch to stop you crying in a corner - its good when religious people can be so honest.
My reason to continue living? Its my only one, what else would I do, stupid?
No life isn't too painful to be worth it. Life ain't fair but there's not much you can do about that - more proof against god's existence.
Your life would be unbearable without Jesus - you mean you need something to believe in - if you were born in India you'd believe in Kali, Shiva and Ganesa, in Thailand you'd probably follow the Buddha and you'd think that was the correct religion, wouldnt you?

I believe that when you die, you're dead.
I believe that, in life, what you see is what you get.
The main reason I don't believe in God is because I prefer to think that I have control over my own life and take responsibility for my actions, rather than chalking up the events of my life to some grand scheme dictated by an unseen deity.
The serotonin that my body naturally produces makes me happy and my positive outlook on life keeps the serotonin flowing and thus keeps me happy.
Thinking and existing on my own is enough to keep me happy for the rest of my life.
There are plenty of people in my life I would die for and, in turn, would do the same for me.
The reason I continue living is the reflex of breathing and my subconscious, animalistic thoughts of self-preservation. This is my life and I'm going to make the best of it. What's the point in worrying about dying? When I'm dead, I'll be gone, and will cease to care about living.
If life wasn't worth it, I would kill myself. But that which does not kill us only makes us stronger, and also makes us appreciate being alive. Pain is an illusion anyway.
I'm glad that you have found something that allows you to survive in this crazy, mixed-up world. Best of luck to you! If it turns out that you're right and I'm wrong, see you in the afterlife.

I don't believe in god or any "higher power". I believe in evolution, science, and logic. I don't think anyone has a greater purpose in life other than to live a good life and live everyday like it could be your last. What makes me happy is reading, and writing, and learning about my world. And my fiance also makes me happy and he will be keeping me happy for the rest of my life. I would die for him in an instant, and he would do the same for me. He and my family are my reasons to kee living. Life is always painful. Even if you DO believe in god. But life is always worth it.

Many people take the fact that we're all here (universe, galaxy, Earth, people, etc.) as proof that Something exists (or at least, existed at some point) that started it all.
However, it seems as if all we can prove is that it's proceeding under its own steam at this point. There is no proof or even theoretical support for any of the religions anyone has concocted so far.
Jesus is nice to have to keep oneself company inside one's head, but no more real than comfort from a blankie for a little one or any other thing one might imagine to create a sense of well-being.
This time on Earth is all we have. Use every moment as wisely as possible. If you treat the planet itself, animals and other people as well as possible in each encounter, you will feel great and die peacefully. Spend time working at finding out the best ways to treat others and the environment instead of going to church to learn dogma.
If you need something to comfort you when you are upset, taking deep breaths through the nose and letting the air out slowly through the mouth (or other relaxation techniques) works much better than thoughts of Jesus.

God = higher being.
Atheist - lack of belief in a god.
i.e.,
Atheist - lack of being in a higher being.
No evidence for a god, that is why I do not believe. Being intelligent, logical, ALIVE, etc. make me happy. I would die for my future children. Reason to continue living - make an impact on the world. Enjoy life to the fullest because it's a gamble (literally) to have been born in the first place. Life is precious BECAUSE it ends. We only get ONE CHANCE AT IT. MY life is not too painful to be worthless. In fact, sometimes pain shows that you're really alive.

I am agnostic, and I think there are logical theories that show there could be a higher power, but whether it is a God or Gods I don't know.
What I found was unbearable are the hypocrisies of religion, and the half truths in the bible. To point at a single source and call it infallible is just irrational.

I do be counted on a God, or in God, I easily have study the Bible, it intrest me alot, lately I easily were looking for the connections with Revalations and whats happening in the middle East at the moment, you recognize, Babylon is ideal smack in Baghdad, God cursed that land, ever because, its had issues, the Harlot because the Bible speaks of , receives inebriated off the blood of the danger free ones, who might want to that harlot be? the U. S.? or Iraq? The seven heads and crowns of the dragon, are those the tremendous powers? those situations, I do have self assurance , are the signs and indicators of the precise. i might want to opt to have self assurance the area about how God stated he does no longer enable the earth to be destroyed again as he alowed even as he flooded the earth, so possibly it is going to eliminate a large astroid hitting us. and then now and again, u recognize, because this universe is so huge, why are we the in elementary words ones the following? If God made those sorts of plntsin universe because he loved us a lot, how in the global are we going to be in a position to work out them? Or is there yet another race already doing that, for this reason unidentified flying merchandise's and such. or possibly there isnt a God, possibly its those area beings which have orchestrated a e book of criteria for the human race to adhere to as an attempt, now we are being checked on and monitored more desirable than ever. yet not in any respect the a lot less even then, imho, interior, there is implanted something, that makes us conscious that we are created, that we opt to percieve as more desirable than mankind, that we opt to worship. I kinda imagine , u recognize, because Jesus replaced into round how important it really is to do Gods will, he warns us of our imminent doom if we dont, i imagine, guy, thousands of years have handed and there continues to be human beings ending up what Jesus did, if there's a hell, somewhat than a own hell, is it particularly that undesirable that we ought to heed a caution that has been passsed alongside for thousands years?

Why do you assume atheism is a sort of religion and all atheists 'believe' the same thing? All you're questions are based on the idea that people have to believe in something to be happy. Never considered the possibility that people could be happy simply by being, existing?
