I have a lincoln navigator year 2003 with 59,600 mileage on it. This is a 8 cylinder suv.

I just bought this suv from a private seller and I only drive about 5 miles a day. I put $50 in the tank and it doesn't even last me a week. when I click the info button on my car it says that I am getting only 5.7 miles per gallon. In the manual it says that it supposed to give about 13 miles per gallon. Do you think I need a tune up? what can be the problem? what can I do?

That does sound low. I have the feeling that the short distance that you drive does not allow the choke to open or the engine is not coming up to the proper temperature. What ratio is your rear end? The higher the numerical number the lower the gas mileage. Also running the air conditioner will lower your mileage too. You could take the SUV to a auto parts place and see if they will read the error codes for free. Good luck

Make sure you do the calculations on your own, rather than what the computer tells you. The computer "guestimates" according to your last tankful usage. I have a LS myself so it's the same system. 2nd, if after using pen and paper, the calculation still says it's 5.7MPG, then most probably the throttle sensor is injecting too much gas into the combustion chamber which the sensor might need replacing, or simply cleaning your injectors, although since it's just a few years old, I doubt you have clogged injectors this early on. 3rd, I would try fueling up at another gas station, just as an extra measure. Your worst MPG, should be around 10MPG, and thats taking city traffic into consideration. I've never done anything less than 11 when I had one. But I'm betting on the 2nd one...

You bought a thirsty fuel hog and now you are going to spend a fortune. What a waste. You could in theory find someone even more ignorant than yourself who would be fuelish (excuse me,
that would be 'foolish', wouldn't it?). Personally, if somebody gave me a 2003 Lincoln Navigator, I'd spend a the total of $150
required to enter it into junkyard regardless of its operational status, and tell myself I just helped save more gasoline for my hybrid TW200B.

I'd dump it too...sounds like more trouble than it's worth to fix...

You might try running some injector cleaner through it ( STP, etc), getting a new air cleaner, oil..if you live in a place where it snows, you might need some gas dri (soaks up water in the gas tank and lines...)

yes. you will need to change plugs , air filter, wirers. that should help alot. i've been in auto parts sales for 15 years. this sould atleast give you 10 more miles to the gallon.

I would definitely get rid of that gas hog ASAP. My 18 wheeler gives me better fuel mileage than that.
