I don't mind making a bunch of stops or flying from/to a nearby airport, such as Chicago or Frankfurt. What is the cheapest route?

that varies. you'll probably be better off traveling to a larger airport, depending on how big yours is compared to others nearby. i assume chicago would be the closest/largest airport to you. you should search for flights from airports that you're willing to drive to and plan the rest of your trip from that point.

Go to www.expedia.com, they will give you a list of the cheapest flights and what kind of stops and things like that you will have to encounter.
