I had a very infected tooth extracted yesterday(2/15) and the dentist had trouble getting the whole tooth out! So, after much prodding, pulling, yanking, extreme pain and cutting, he got the last remaining piece of impacted tooth out! Well, he told me it would hurt a couple days, but I woke up today and I kid you not I had the worst pain I have ever experienced!(right up there with labor~!) anyway, no pain killers are touching the pain and i have been nautious and achy all day and felt lots of chills and fever! I finally went to my neighbor's house to check my temp and I only had the thermometer in like 2 minutes and it skyrocketed up to 103! Tell me, it is just getting worse, I can't get ahold of the dentist, do I need to go to emergency room??!! if i had a gun, i would probably shoot myself, that is how much pain i am in!

yes, you need to go to the ER. They can give you stronger pain meds and also antibiotics so you don't get an infection. Sounds like your dentist did too much prodding and should have sent you to an oral surgeon instead...

Hello. I have learnt a lot about teeth lately, not qualified however but a lot of personal experience. I think you need to get your dentist to refer you to an oral and maxilofacial surgeon. Im my opinion, your dentist should not have taken an impacted wisdom tooth out (if it was a wisdom tooth). However, you can get after this, dry roots or jaw bone damage. If it is still hurting, then get referred and PDQ as I know how bad tooth ache/infection pain can be. Not nice. If you have any other roots in your mouth too, then get them out now, teeth especially in the back top can cause sinus related problems and nasty infections. I hope this help, I had operations where I had to had gums slit and even they did not hurt too much after. Get salt watering in the meantime. I have another tooth op monday (19th feb). :(

Good luck with it.
T.

It sounds like you have an infection. If you can't get in touch with your dentist, go to the ER or urgent clinic. You need to get on antibiotics right away. Good luck.

Emergency room, Now!!!

No point going back to that dentist; he's made enough of a mess already and he's not professionally equipped to deal with someone presenting with a temperature of 103. You could be having a shock reaction to a drug he used ... but this is now a medical problem, not a dental one.

Good luck.

If you can't get ahold of your dentist- go the the E.R. Getting such a high temp isn't normal- you may have some sort of infection that requires antibiotics.

he was not supposed to pull it if it was still infected. Did he give you antibiotic first? If not then that is probably what is wrong. That would be like doing surgery on an infected wound. Not smart!! you need to go to the emergency room if it gets too bad

I'M SURPRISED THE DENTIST DIDN'T PUT YOU ON ANTIBIOTICS TO PREVENT THIS INFECTION.
YOU NEED TO GO TO THE E.R. IMMEDIATELY, AND GET ANTIBIOTICS AS WELL AS MEDS. FOR THE PAIN AND SWELLING YOU HAVE.
I SUGGEST MOTRIN 800mg EVERY 4-6 HOURS FOR THE SWELLING/PAIN AND THE APPROPRIATE ANTI.FOR THIS INFECTION.
EITHER AMOXICILLIN, CLINDAMYCIN OR METRONIDAZOLE SHOULD BE USED.
