All of the new computers that are out now come with the new Windows Vista operating system installed on it. I'm not ready to upgrade to Windows Vista yet, and I'm ready to purchase a new computer.

How do I switch from Windows Vista to Windows XP without deleting any of the programs that came installed on the new computer?

you best bet would be to order a computer online through dell or hp and have it installed with xp. bc if you go to the store and buy one with vista installed on it will have to pay to purchase xp as well and there is no need to buy a copy of each when you can still order online and just pay for the one you want

You would probably have to install windows XP over the windows Vista software and hope that all of the other programs would work. Why don't you ask the people whom you intend on buying the computer from to do it for you so that you can be sure that you don't loose anything?

You can't. Since going from Vista to XP would be considered a downgrade, there's not an easy way to do it. you'd have to purchase a copy of XP (not a recovery disc) and boot off of CD and format the hard drive, then install XP. You'd lose all the data and applications on the drive except those you purchased and installed yourself.

You either have to buy a new computer that has Windows XP on it, or you have to buy Windows XP, format the computer that has Windows Vista and install Windows XP...

If you do the second option you're going to lose that software.

I just don't think there is a way to do it...

Are you sure that your computer is set up to boot from a CD? When starting your computer up, repeatedly hit F2 or delete to bring up the BIOS screen. Play around a little until you find the boot order screen and make sure that you are booting up your primary CD drive before your hard drive.
