I woke up a couple nights ago because of acid reflux and now I have no voice left (since yesterday). Could the two be connected?

Yes. Are you on medication for the acid reflux? If not, see your doctor!
Try elevating your head on extra pillows at night.
Keep water by the bed; if the acid reflux wakes you up, take a drink to clear your throat.
Be careful. Your situation is probably temporary, but it can become permanent if you don't take care of it.

They can definitely be connected. I have had a terrible time with the results of acid reflux. In my case, I didn't even know I was having it until I developed a lump in my throat and started losing my voice. I never had heartburn, so I had no idea why I was having such terrible throat problems. I went to an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist and he scoped my throat and diagnosed me. I am on medication and it is helping, but it has taken 4 months for me to heal about 90% of the visible damage. Please take reflux seriously. It can damage your esophagus and your throat if it goes untreated. Good luck.

Yes! Acid can damage the nerves that go through your vocal cords. It happens to people who have had acid reflux for a long period of time. During sleep acid can flow up the esophagus and reach your vocal cords and damage them. That's why it is important to use high pillows during the sleep, so that your head is uplifted.

Assuming the worst case scenario, one of your vocal cords had been damaged. But the good news is that this is reversible. Go to the doctor ASAP and they will take care of it. Once the treatment is over, you will have to go through voice restoration therapy and learn to talk all over again. Usually, only about 90 percent of the voice capacity comes back to you.

I am very sorry if I scared you a bit, but don't be discouraged, you will survive the experience. Good luck!
