I have a bad back so I've been bathing my daughter, now 18mo., in her infant tub on the floor of her room since birth. Well, now that she's getting too big I've put one of those squishy mats (anti-slip) in the tub along with tons of tub toys and she FREAKS out! Then again, she's never really been in the bathroom before so she looked around at how big everything is. She calms down, after about 10 - 15 min., but must hold on to the tub rail with one hand at all times. Once we're done bathing, she plays a kicks a bit with one hand on the tub railing. Any ideas on how to calm her fears?

I have an inflatable tub that says to 24 months or 25lbs. She's already 25 pounds, so I plan on returning it.

Get in there with her....

It is the size of the tub... it's overwhelming to them. Maybe some bubbles will help distract her.

My son did the same the first time we put him in the tub.. What we did was put the infant tub in the big tub for about a week and then we bought one of the seats that connects to the side of the tub that he could sit in and feel secure. I got it from Wal-Mart. He loves the tub now. The only screaming we get now is when it is time to get out. If all else fails get in the tub with her, to show her that it is ok.

You may have too much stuff in the tub. Put just a few good toys and some bubbles. Get some bath crayons. She may need time to adjust to the big tub. Just always make it out to be fun time!

Keep in mind that bubble baths with little girls can cause bladder infections and UTI's. My sister got a few when she was younger, and we didnt know about the bubbles, until her ped. mentioned it. He said it is more common with potty trained girls though. The simple solution with that was to have her go pee immediately after getting out of a bubble bath. As far as your problem with your daughter, I have no clue, since my son never used an infant tub. I only posted, because i seen several posters mention bubble baths as a way to help relax your daughter, I wanted to mention this.

My son has a tub seat it's made by Safety 1st. He really likes it because he still feels secure yet his little body is totally in the tub. I bought mine used on craigslist for $10! The best thing ever!

let her play in the tub with no water in the tub, don't put alot of toys in at one time, like 3-4 and maybe get in the tub with her without the water just to show her there is nothing to be afraid of...whatever you decide be consistent in doing it, or it will just end as soon as it started.

Can you get into the tub with your bad back? If so, bathe together till she is comfortable. If not, it will just take time.

well this is pretty new to her. Take a bath with her to make her comfortable then gradually work your way to just letting her be in the tub herself.
