usually u can subsitute vegtable oil and a tiny bit on salt for shortening if u don't have marigne.

Applesauce is good, just make sure it is plain, smooth - remember applesauce in elementary school? If calories is not the issue, butter or margarine (at least 65% vegetable oil)
