Yes, I would be mad! Why would I want my child to be eating junk at a daycare? God. And someone above mentioned that your daughter might feel left out eating Cheerios in a rold full of Cheeto-eating children. That has to be the dumbest thing I've heard all day. At least YOUR daughter won't be the fat kid on the block who's had three heart surgeries and has to use a wheelchair sometimes to put ease on her heart.

An "unhealthy" snack once in a while is ok for toddlers. If you deny them "treats" all the time, they will crave them all the more. Yes, daycares should try to stick to mostly nutritious foods- ask to see a monthly snack calendar. Centers should keep a calendar of the snacks that they will be serving, especially if they receive any federal funding (which says that the center must provide documentation of balanced, nutritious snacks). Now, if you note that every time you pick up your child that they are having cookies, fruit snacks, or popsicles- it would be a problem. However, once in a while a "fluff" snack is alright. Just make sure that over the period of a month the children are receiving healthy snacks

When I first read you question I thought you said "Cheerios" and I thought, no wouldn't make me mad, then I reread "Cheetos." If I had my kid(s) in daycare I would want a list of everything they had eaten that day. Cheetos don't have any nutritional value and are high in fat so I would want to know if they had some so I wouldn't give them another no nutrition snack when we got home.

Just a guess, but this is probably not the most expensive daycare in town--you get what you pay for.

I would have given them on registration of my child a list of things I did not want my child to be given and provided them with snacks that I find acceptable. However, a child is in the learning process and you may find that variation encourages a child in many ways. The world is a big place and there are many different things to try, cheetos are not so bad and with a well varied diet at home I am sure you can compensate for this.

I worked in a day care center for 7 years. Although we never gave the kids Cheetos for a snack ... I don't see what the problem is. If you don't want her to have them ... bring your own snack.

Besides ... it was a snack, maybe a handful of Cheetos? It's not like they gave her a whole bag.

My daughter eats them quite often. I am really not sure I understand why this would anger you.

If you make a big deal out of food, calories, and fat now, your daughter is going to become so fixated on it that she may develop an eating disorder. A few cheetos once in a while won't make her fat as long as it's balanced out with healthy stuff.

Cheetos are not the devils tools for Gods sake. It's just food.

No, but that's only because Cheetos are really hard to choke on. I choked on a carrot in day care when I was young, and my teacher just smacked me on the back--hard--to get it out. I would feel much better if my kids were eating choke-proof food as daycare teachers are generally untrained in safety and health.

You can always send your own snacks for your child to eat. However, remember that this may make your child feel left out as she gets older and is the only one eating Cheerios in a world of Cheetos. You can also talk to the teacher about your healthy food concerns.

first did you tell them what your child could or could not eat for a snack???
I personally have a list of foods that i want my child to eat and dont want my child to eat.
Also did you care to ask what your child did eat for the day??
Once i came home early from classes like about 10 o"clock in the morning and my nanny and 2 year old were eating banana splits!!! I freaked out momentarily until I found out that they had already had breakfast and dishes done and that was a treat for the day. So no big deal

I'm a SAHM, and I feed my children the occassional Cheeto. Am I going to go to H**L for that??? No, b/c it's not an every day kinda thing. It's a treat and it's also one of the easier things for children that age to eat. If you don't want them to feed her those kinds of food then YOU need to let them know.

Most daycare places feed the children high in fat and usless calorie foods one is simple to prepare and 2 it keeps the children quiet.Which is a very bad way of teaching poor diet skills i sugest you speak to the head of the facility and ask for better snack/meal options
