can I add more wort to my ferment to raise the alchol content I only used 3 lbs extraxct and .75 lbs carmel grain and .75lbs oatmeal in a 2 gal batch which gives me around 4% Im looking for 8-9% if I add 2.5lbs extract to 1/2 gal water can I add this to what Ive already ferminted or will this not work. Also does the yeast die if there is no sugar to eat because it may be close to that point? Help save my beer thanks

Yes you can add more.
I would have done it sooner.
Be careful not to add air.
Boil the crap out of the water to remove air.
I would do it in 2 or 3 doses.
Adding too much at once may stress the yeast.
There is enough live yeast still there. Don't add more.
Once you add fresh wort, it will become active again.

Add away my friend, thats what the big boys do. Their fermenters require a lot of brews to fill so they just start up the fermentation and keep adding until the fermenter is full.

The yeast will die when it can no longer tolerate the alcohol, so if you have used a yeast strain that can handle high alcohols, go ahead.

Contrary to the others, I'd be adding as much air (filtered) as I could. Yeast loves oxygen and it helps it to reproduce so you are more likely to get a more health stock of yeast. Espcially if you think the yeast count has fallen. Your fermentation will slow down for a day as the yeast switches to aerobic energy production, but after that it'll start munching on the sugar again. Just don't add air to the hot extract, its got to be cool if your adding air.

The problem you may have though is that the extract/water you are adding has not been sterilised. So you need to boil it up, cool it quickly and get it into your fermenter.

I do not recommend that you ferment. This can be very damaging to your skin. It can cause permanent damage to your skin. STOP fermenting as soon as possible and take a bath in baking soda to stop the process.
