I'm getting married next Saturday. I rented floral baskets from my florist that will be at the ceremony then transferred to the reception. The cost for 4 (tall) was about $40 for all of them.
Check with your florist and bridal shops near you to see if they have things you can rent for cheap.
For centerpieces I spent $6 each. Glass bowl from Michaels, White and clear rocks from Walmart and burgundy candles (1 per bowl) from Walmart. We set them up and they look really nice.
For the Cake Table: Votive candles and 2 champagne glasses. We also bought a $30 lighted archway from Michaels that we are using at the altar for the ceremony then placing behind teh cake for the reception
Hope these helped! Good Luck!

I have two words....
Hobby Lobby...
If you do not have one it is a decorating, craft, hobby store...michaels is another. Keep an eye out for there sale adds 10-60% off every week! Flowers and all! When is the wedding? If a holiday use that especially the colors...We did easter...(the day before) I didnt use easter eggs or anything but...At the church we always purchase easter lilies and mums to be in remberence of someone so the whole church bought some including me and it ended up saving a ton and looked as if I had planned it. My colors were purple and white with some silver. I have a ton of ideas for you let me know some details of the wedding..date etc and I can help some more.

The 4th of July decorations will go on clearance everywhere right after the 4th I would wait to buy any decorations until then. Maybe try an all american theme use lots of red white and blue have a picnic type motif and menu it keeps the cost of food down to make a big batch of potato salad and maybe some fried chicken with baked beans and coleslaw lemonade and watermelon you could even throw in some PB&J sandwiches to make it child friendly. If you use family members to help make these simple picinic foods it will keep the cost way down. Use vases of fruits instead of flowers. a tall vase of lemons tied with a navy ribbon a "fish" bowl of blue berries tied with a red ribbon a different shaped clear container with the strawberries tied with a yellow ribbon and stick the little american flags in the center of each so it sticks out the top. You can also get some fake grape leaves or ivy and twine it around the bases and drape it across the table. Another idea get red white and blue cupcakes(at your walmart if you have a supercenter) and put a cake stand at each table with the cupcakes then serve a small elegant wedding cake. That way you get the beautiful cake you want but keep it small for cost and serve the cupcakes. this takes care of the centerpieces and keeps the cost of the cake way down. They even put little american flags in each cupcake. You can use a red and white checkered table cloth then cover it in the opposite direction with a white cloth then on the next table put the red and white table cloth with a navy in the opposite direction. Simplicity in your decorations is the best way to save money. Often if done in the right way less is more!

I made candles myself with glass globes my mom had bought at a second hand store for about 5 cents each we melted wax and put it into them I am now using ribbon I bought back at christmas time for like a dollar (blue and silver are my wedding colors and very popular christmas colors). I also bought strands of christmas lights after the holidays in blue and white for like 50 cents and boughs of garland for 50 cents we are going to string them up in the hall, today I bought valentines day candy that was 50% off my wedding is in march but I also bought hearts and stuff to decorate with too. Unfortunately my wedding will be before Easter so I cant buy stuff the day after for that but I have some things I'll be doing in connection to that for inexpensive decorations too I don't want extreme amounts of decoretion at the church we are using it is a very small country church so the fact that they will already have easter lilies decorating the church means I don't have to buy any myself.

An idea of how many and how much you would like to spend as well as colors, etc would be helpful.
We did silk topiaries for my daughter's wedding. We made a base with a square of plaster of paris with a dowel in it. We put a styrofoam ball on top and covered the ball with fake flowers. We covered the base and dowel with fabric and ribbon. The looked very nice and didn't take much to make.
For a friend's wedding we made single rose centerpieces. We took small flat bowls and placed floating candles and a single rose bud in the bowls. We then put some fake ivy and fall leaves around the bowls.

A lot of reception halls will offer some sort of centerpiece such as a mirror, glass bowl and votives. Askif they offer anything. If they do, just add a touch of your colors, or theme. My husband and I were on a tight budget as well. I bought some flower petals in one of my colors, then bought fake flowers from Michaels, clipped off the heads of the flowers and placed them in the water bowls to bring a lot of color to the reception. If you need to decorate the whole room...look at oriental trading company. They have a lot of inexpensive ideas.

A great way to save money on your reception is to have everything do double duty. For instance if you are having cloth napkins fold them in a way that will make the table decorative. Also could have tiny pots with artificial flowers in them, you could use them as centrepieces, name tag holders and favours for your guests.
One final thought, you could buy wine glasses at the thrift store, cut out vellum shades place a votive in them and use them as both a centrepiece and favour.

Rent tall vases and use ribbons to decorate them and use them as centrepieces with flowers for the dining tables. Rent sparkling organza table overlays to accentuate your table settings. Instead of renting organza chair covers, just rent organza sashes that you can tie as ribbon at the back of the seats. Place tall pots with flowers on each corner of the reception hall and decorate the entrance door with organza and small flowers, no need for arches and backdrops.
