Hiya, Awww i feel so sorry for your mum and you of course. Rigour Mortice sets in after about 1 hour, i remember picking my cat up after he had died to hand him to the pet crematorium people, and i will never forget the feel of him his muscles were very stiff but his skin still moved over them. Its a sad time because they are members of your family.

1-2 hours or so, and is temporary. Put her out of her misery to be sure. I had a cat who was run over, got up and walked around in a daze, but the vet said she was dead instantly - she had brain death

Aww, poor kitty... If it's still alive you should be able to feel a heartbeat or pulse somewhere. If it's not its body will start to cool down and it will become stiff within an hour. If it's been an hour it will become very obvious when you touch the body whether it's still warm and alive or whether it isn't.

About an hour after death. If the tongue is hanging out on side and the mouth is open, then the kitty is gone. So sorry.

2-4 hours, the body temperture is also an indication.Take its temp rectally, if it's 98 degrees are less. Place a mirror in front of it's nose, if there's no condensation, it's not breathing either

It starts to set in after and hour or 2. Cats breathe and have heart beats you know - you might want to check for those.

within a couple of hrs.. but it passes and body becomes limp again after a while... check pulse and breathing.. easy way to check for life is t check the blink reflex... touch the corner of the eye nearest the nose if its eyelids move (blinks) it is still alive.. if not its not good!

Definitely not, but rigor mortis just might.... Poor cat, he sounds dead to me. He'll start to stiffen up as soon as he's cold, so send him on his way with dignity!

our cat was hit by a car last year, my brother who buried her said she had started to go stiff and that was about an hour and a half tops after she was killed (she was still warm when i found her). sorry about your cat :0(
