There is a guy at work (in a restaurant). I think that he finds it difficult to talk to me. Like the other day, no other co-workers were around except for me and him... he walked past me and lingered for a while (like he's thinking) before asking me about school (we're both college students). He often comments on how smart I am (I have 3.9 college GPA).
I don't know if he likes me or he's just shy-- well, I'm kinda shy too.
I also don't see him a lot though... just a couple of times a month since we usually don't work at th same time.
He's really nice to me-- but in a modest way. He does little things to make my job easier. The thing is that I kind of like him too and I don't know if this is clouding my judgement.

You can find out. Every time you meet him, always say hi and see if he hesitates. If he does or sorta gets embarrassed, he probably likes you.
The easiest way is just to ask him out. Some guys actually want girls to ask them out because they are shy. Just suck in your embarrassment and talk to him. That's what I did when I first started dating in freshman year of high school. I know its pretty awkward the first day you talk with the person you like. I just swallowed my embarrassment and talked to her. Pretty soon, we became good friends and I asked her out. As you get into more relationships, you experience will increase. Pretty soon, you won't be shy and thats a good thing.
Ask him for lunch at a restaurant or something. You would never know if you don't ask!

I think he might like you.
Some guys need a little encouragement when it comes to starting off a conversation. Once you guys can engage in a conversation I'm sure he'd be able to open up! So help him out, start asking questions, ask him how's school going, what does he do for fun, etc. That will show him that you're interested, and he'll be a lot more comfortable.

He sounds like me. I'm the same way with a girl at work that I suspect may like me to but at times when we are alone we are both kinda shy around each other. There's probably something there.

He's interested alright. No doubts there.
BUT....
He is probably also concerned about the opinions of others, specifically your co-workers. His approach when no one else is around supports this.
If he asked you out and was rejected, would his / your fellow workers find out? He is unwilling to take that chance I suspect; the embarassment would be excruciating and possibly cause to leave the job (it's a man thing).
If you are keen on him, approach him.

girl most guys r very shy and what i learned is that most guys like for a girl to step up now i mean its 2007 why not but u should see whats on his mind like if he's single, do he like someone, u know tha lil things like that just to see where his mind is...... and with both of u guys being shy it wont happen so just see what he got on his mind and if u dont wanna talk about it in person find a way to switch number or something...... you just do want this to pass u by cuz he seem like a cool guy

that doesn't necessarily mean he likes u. I'm a very quiet guy, around everyone. or he might just have trouble starting a convo. although, he just might like u. i say u go for it.
