For women that believe that "chivalry" (doors, seats, coats, etc.) is common a demonstration of respect for women (whether in a relationship or on the train with strangers):
(For those women that reject this, please disregard)
Is the showing of "respect" only to be done by men toward women?
Or, should women demonstrate respect for men as well?
If so, what specific things should women DO to demonstrate respect for men? (Other than accept kindness shown toward them).
If not, why doesn't this fly in the face of treating all people with courtesy and respect, regardless of race, religion, or gender?

Yes, but the sad facts are:
Women are NOT expected to DO anything to show men respect in the. That is passe.
MEN (rightly) are taught to GIVE women respect (though they don't always do it) whereas WOMEN are taught to RECEIVE respect.
When's the last time anyone heard a girl or woman told, "be sure you respect boys or men?"
BOYS are TAUGHT:
Show RESPECT for WOMEN (including strangers). Open their doors, give them your seat, give them your coat, protect them, stand when they come and go. . .
GIRLS are TAUGHT:
Be sure men (or boys) RESPECT YOU (including strangers), open your doors, give you his seat, protect you, stand when you come and go. . . Doorman, valet,
On the other hand, if a man even suggests that a wife should so much as cook a meal for her husband, he is considered mysogynistic PIG trying to make women slaves to men.
What a crazy world !

Courtesy, chivalry and respect are different. Respect is earned, never given. Treating everyone in a courteous manner ensures harmony and gives you a level of respect. Chivalry is a set of customs, done out or courtesy, to a lady by a gentleman. All religions and morals standards say to treat all people with respect (read courtesy). Doing more for certain people is just going above and beyond that so long as it never takes away from others.

I am a woman and I hold the door open for others, especially if their hands are full. When someone holds the door for me I thank them and smile. I make room for another driver to pull into my lane if they have their signal on, and move over so another bus rider can sit down.
My husband pulls out my chair and opens my car door. But I cook him dinner, set the table and ask about his day. And I unlock his car door once I am inside. There are many ways to show respect for people, regardless of gender. The best way is to care about their comfort and act accordingly.
If you care about a woman and would like to make her comfortable, pull out her chair and hold the door by all means. If you don't care, don't do these things and she will get the message.
If you want know if she respects you, talk to her. If she listens attentively, she does. If she changes the subject to herself, she does not. There may be no standard stereotypical gestures to demonstrate respect for a man, but a lack of respect is obvious in either gender. And people who are disrespectful are often lonely at the end of the day.

Both men and women should be considerate of each other. A man might open the door for me, but I will also open one for him if I want to. If a man buys me a gift, I will buy him one to thank him. It's all about mutual respect.

yes all living substance deserve respect. respect doesnot mean to obey manner but it s about to have care for someone . its women or men are seeking for respect but they should keep in mind that if they want to get respect they respect also people. so this is give and take policy.

If more people showed mutual respect this world would not be in the state it is in.
BUT...remember respect needs to be earned.

Dudeu wat the heck are you smoking? get off that bong and tell your dealer to stop cutting it with toilet bowl detergent.
Men show respect for women in the ways you mentioned. Women show respect for men by not acting like they're too "strong" to be treated nicely. What the heck? if a man held a door open for a guy friend you wouldn't be all like DUDE TREAT ME AS AN EQUAL. he woudl be like thanks. so why don't youi think it is respectful for women to appreciate the kindness and respect given to them? we are not asking for women to disrespect men and we are not disrespecting women by being polite. in fact its an extension of the curtesy and repect given to all people.

Women can be cold hearted bit**es,so you should feel priviliged if you find one WILLING to be nice to you.
Also,you're still immature.
If you have to ask this question,it seems you have not figured out how to give respect to a woman.
If you have to "make" yourself do it,it's not real..you're only pretending.

I think everyone should be treated with courtesy unless they show themselves to be someone who rejects it or is not worthy of it.
