If you respect Jeff Burton you will believe that it was a part that wore out. Burton went to the Nascar garage and inspected it himself to give himself relief that NASCAR wasnt playing favorites. They said that a bolt broke and that going down a straightaway his car WOULD lower and give a slight advantage. But in turns it would cause his car to raise close to 6inches hurting handling and slowing him. Most of the drivers said it would not be something done on purpose as it would be something that would end up hurting you as more laps went on. That type of stuff happens alot throughout the year but isnt a big deal. But, because of so many penalties it became a big deal. I am not a Gordon fan. I believe it was a part malfunction and that it was not done to get a competitive advantage!

I think personally that it was not intentional. A lot of people that jump on this topic saying oh he was cheating are people that hate Jeff Gordon. I am not a Jeff Gordon fan but I do respect that he is a great driver you got to respect that. If a car passes pre-race inspection then something happened during the race to cause the problem. I do not believe it was an intentional thing. Granted it was caught and he does have to be penalized. But hey thats racing for ya.

No I don't think so. Even nascar has said the the bolt holding the shock frame had worked loose and Gordon was lucky that it didn't come lose during the race. This was a part that couldn't have been controlled from within the car so, it was not intentional. However, he has to start fron the rear and if your are a Gordon fan, I wouldn't worry too much. He will work his way up toward the front.

Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president for competition, said bolts had been misaligned on the rear shocks of Gordon's car, and the load placed on the bolts during the race forced the quarterpanels below the minimum allowed height.
But Pemberton stressed that he believed the infraction was unintentional, and that further penalties were unwarranted.
That is a quote from NASCAR.com. No matter who you ask, you will get different answers. Fans will say it was a mistake, Gordon haters will say it was intentional. All I can say is that at least it wasn't some unkown paste like substance in an intake manifold near the fuel intake ports. On MULTIPLE intake manifolds.

No, it's the first race of the season and the inspections are tight. I've seen many other races where the winner, second, third, etc place had passed the pre-race inspection but failed the post-race inspection. Of course there is some cheating, but little errors like this results in big consequences so every liitle detail is pressured, and pressure leads to mistakes.

The conflict between the followers of Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr is over people. it's time to unite and be one. once you stop to think of roughly it, this team mixture could make racing lots extra thrilling: Jeff would be #a million, Jimmy #2, and Dale Jr #3 in the pecking order. Will those 3 artwork at the same time throughout a race? Or will or not it quite is each and every guy for himself? and that i'm and continuously would be a Dale Sr fan, yet i myself do think of this new team mixture will warmth NASCAR up slightly! ask your self what Dale Sr thinks approximately all of this?

That's how all Hendrick drivers answer questions isn't it. I think its complete bull shi t that he gets away with having an infraction found on his car and all nascar does is send him to the back of the field!!! That is not a penalty since its at a restrictor plate race and in 2 pit stops he will be in the top 10. Nascar has just proven itself that they do play favorites and do not penalize teams equally.
Did his car not pass post race inspection? NO so take 50 points away along with his crew chief for 4 races and fine his pathetic butt just like they did to the other guys. Anyone can say they did not mean to do it. But only some drivers nascar wants to believe and others they want to set an example with.
F U C K Hendrick drivers!!!

I don't understand why he was penalized. The Nascar Officials said it was not intended- it was a part failure!!
That's okay if he has to start from the back- because when he wins the Daytona 500- he will earn it!! Go Jeff Gordon!!

I was going to answer this question but lawnjesus has it nailed. If you Gordon haters don't want to know the truth and aimlessly bash him you will think what you want. People that seek the truth should believe what Jeff Burton said, he is a straight shooter. I'm not a Gordon fan but sure do respect his undeniable talent.

If you have seen anything on TV about it, I think its pretty clear it was not intentional...
Pemberton said the shock fastener and spacers used to hold the rear shocks that are installed during pre-race preparation for restrictor plate races were misaligned. He said it likely was a mistake made by the mechanic. "We felt it was unintentional," Pemberton said. "Actually, it was unsafe. We felt it was a part failure and unintentionally done. (Jayski.com)
If he was going to cheat he would not have had such a crappy car...
For all you haters of Gordon, your right, he cheated and got away with it! Dont you wish your driver could do that too! Get real you buch of babies, and get over it!
