They will probably do a background check.
See if you can talk to lawyer and get the charge dropped to a misdemenor (or whatever they call it in your state) because you want to join.
Kinda iffy without knowing how the charges were filed. If they question you about it, be sure to say you were defending yourself and you were afraid for your safetly etc and they might let you.
but dont lie and say that it didnt happen at all because they will find out
GOOD LUCK!

Yes the standards are higher, but consider the responsibility as well. You have to find out how the charges were filed if any. Were you convicted in a court for assault? Did you plead no contest? Were both of you charged AND convicted? What state was this in? If you are honest and forthcoming, there is a chance that you can become an MP. No matter what, don't try to cover it up or lie about it. The truth will come out. I know of many MPs who got busted for DWI and they stayed in, so there is hope for you. Besides, the Army is letting in convicted felons because of the shortage of troops. If you have ANYTHING in your record that keeps you from getting a security clearance, forget about it.

No, you will not be able to become an MP, just like you will not be able to become a police officer on the civilian police force. Sorry.

Also, you need to be aware that is a full background check done on every person who applies to join the US Armed Forces - this includes a check of juvenile records. With some offenses, such as shoplifting, for example, you can still enlist after your recruiter does a waiver (and the waiver is approved), while other offenses bar you from some jobs, or disqualify you for enlistment altogether.

You cannot be an MP just as you would not be able to be a police officer.

No.

A criminal record will preclude you from being an MP.
