Hollywood, like many cities in LA has its good & bad areas. The reason it sounds so glamorous is because a lot of premieres are held there. On Hollywood Blvd., there's the El Capitan, Mann's Chinese, and other movie theatres where red carpet premieres are held.
By the way, Hollywood is not an actual city. Hollywood is technically Los Angeles, as are MANY other cities in LA. Just to name a few, Encino, Tarzana, San Pedro, Wilmington, Canoga Park, Studio City, and Sherman Oaks are all Los Angeles.
If you ever plan to travel here, some nice areas to visit are the Hollywood Hills (just north of Hollywood Blvd.), Lake Hollywood at the Hollywood Reservoir, Universal Studios, Studio City, Beverly Hills, and many more!

NO. My dad worked in Hollywood though, and it's not the best area.

This is what it says:
Tourists arriving in Southern California often confuse Hollywood with Beverly Hills.
Many visitors come to Hollywood expecting to find a gleaming city filled with movie stars, posh restaurants, grand mansions and expensive shopping areas. They are, of course, very disappointed; the actual suburb of Hollywood is far from glamorous. The real "Hollywood" is a state of mind, not a place; it's not so much a city as it is shorthand for the general movie and entertainment industry.
But if that fabled, glittering Hollywood of the tourist's imagination exists anywhere, it exists in Beverly Hills. It is in Beverly Hills, not Hollywood, where many stars actually live, dine and shop.
...and that pretty much sums it up.

You will find Hollywood is not as glamorous as you think it is. In fact, most of it is pretty seedy.
there are few stars that live in Hollywood proper, except in the expensive homes in the hills.

I hope you can make it.
I also would like to go there but I can't make it because of my health too long flight about 15 hours from Belgium, by the way a friend of me works overthere he's a stuntman and I really like to visit him overthere so I know how it feels.
