I am writing a letter in Spanish to a judge, this is for a report in Spanish class. I was wondering how to start the letter. I am only familiar with querida, which I believe is more of a term of endearment than for a judge.

Estimdado/a is more formal (boss, stranger). Querido/a is "dear" and is most common if you're being less formal (friends/family). One person recommended "hola." Uhm, that's fine if you're in a chat room, but never for a letter.

Estimado. It literally translates into "esteemed," but it is a very normal and common greeting to use in a formal letter.

be conscious: a number of those words could be spelled incorrect by using fact i'm no longer a robust Spanish-be conscious speller. besides: Es, esta, estoy, el, en, espanol, entiendo, entrada, escribir, esquela. that's all i will think of of. Sorry.
