I can't recall ever joking about my own faith, but if I did, I'd imagine that I would be sure to be VERY careful about what I'm saying. I think I'd be alright with a person of a DIFFERENT faith making jokes about mine so long as they're being just as careful not to offend. I watch Family Guy all the time, and they rip on Christianity and Judaeism like nothing else! :P The only reason I'm not sending them mountains of hate mail is because they're making sure that they're being funny, not insulting. Too many people joke to insult, not make an observation on a slight but meaningless absurdity like Family Guy does.

I've done it and do it all the time, at least when it's a good joke. And no, I wouldn't be upset if someone of another faith told a good joke about my religion (Mormon) as long as it were funny and not just based on inaccurate or false Mormon teachings (although even some of those are funny...and I really don't get upset about anything).

Yes.

No, not if it were said as a joke. No one enjoys having their faith or philosophy mocked.

Q: How many UUs does it take to change a light bulb?

A: We choose not to make a statement either in favor of, or against, the need for a light bulb. However, if on your own journey you have found that light bulbs work for you, that's fine.

You are invited to form a committee, write a poem or compose a modern dance about your bulb for next Sunday's service, during which we will explore a number of light bulb traditions, including incandescent, fluorescent, three-way, long-life, and tinted, all of which are equally valid paths to luminescence.

A faithful Baptist preacher died and went to heaven. St. Peter met him at the pearly gates. The preacher heard the most beautiful voices praising God in song. "The singing is wonderful! I've never heard such beautiful harmony", he shouted. "Shhh", said St. Peter. "That's the Church of Christ. They think they're the only ones up here".

If someone else told this joke I would laugh as the joke would be on me.

Jews have more room to make Jewish jokes with me then non-jews. I have Christian friends who are annoyed by this.....and we've argued over it....but I don't think it's appropriate for a non-Jew to use the K word, or make holocaust based jokes.

On the other hand....I love Sarah Silverman....and she certainly insults other faiths.

I guess I'm a hypocrite. Aren't we all.

Yes I have told jokes (and on other denominations) and no as long as I knew it was done in jest it would not bother me. Humor is an important part of life and religion does not say its a sin.

1. yes
2.no

as long as it's the stuff we joke about with each other, mostly food and talking too much. nothing racist or really hurtful, if it's witty, then i'll laugh.

sarah silverman is pretty funny, but some of the jokes she makes i would never think of repeating, esp. to the older generation. those jokes would offend me from someone who isn't jewish.

LOL--we have done this many times and it wouldn't upset me if other people said them either. We are able to laugh at ourselves and have fun. We take representing God very seriously but that is a matter of life and death. Kidding around is just having fun.
