Well, it really depends on where exactly it is in her abdomen. I had an uncomfortable feeling in my right upper quadrant (RUQ) which is basically from the middle of a person's right rib down to about 4 inches give or take and from the side to the middle if that makes any sense. Well it wasn't a pain as much as it felt like extreme discomfort from gas in the diaphragm area. It turned out to be gallbladder disease and it needed to be removed. Some people can medicate with prescription antacids for gallbladder disease, but a lot of people need it taken out because of the increased risk of gallstones blocking the ductt. Let me know any more details and maybe I can elaborate. Thanks!

***UPDATE
What she should do is schedule an appointment with her doctor and explain what she is feeling. I have a pretty good feeling that it has to do with the gallbladder. She's going to need an ultrasound to be sure though. Usually the doctors will tell her not to worry if there aren't any gallstones stucks near the bile duct, but after she experiences extreme discomfort like the pushing/pressure feeling a couple times there's enough cause for concern to get the gallbladder removed. It sounds a lot scarier than it is, but if a stone gets caught in the duct it is far worse.

Possible referred pain
Read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
Trigger points are knots in the muscles making them tight which in turn causes them to apply pressure to nerves and other places.

None of us can diagnose this problem, so the only answer is to take Mom to the doctor. There are too many things that could be wrong for amateurs to speculate.

This sounds like the early stages of appendicitis. You should definitely get her to a doctor, or it could have deadly effects unchecked.

maybe she should have her galbladder looked at. then again she could have a hernia. (not that great on spelling) have her go to the doc and ask about it just to be safe. because if that is it ... it could be serious.
